My son is 5+ yrs of age . I have got him joined in a crash course on swimming yesterday . duration of the course is 30 days . I have observed him these two days . I doubt he will learn much from this much of training . Because , he is very fearful . He likes to remain stuck to the side bar . He even does not paddle much . I took opinions of the parents of other chilren who are advanced swimmer. Some tells it takes minimum 7 days for the kids to feel at home in water . I am very serious about a good progress so that next year , he can start the swimming season as an advanced swimmer . What is your opinion ? Do your kids know swimming ? WHat is your experience on that - i.e, minimum time taken by kids to learn swimming ?

Oh yes! I taught all 3 of my children to swim. I would not risk a drowning and we like to be near water. (It's like teaching them to drive safely? Better to prepare them for life!)-But also..just in case..I also taught them to wear their life vests! (Like, when they are in a boat, etc..)

Hi! I have a 2 1/2 yr old son and he doesn't know how to swim yet as well. I mean, he doesn't even experienced swimming yet. I would like to know, when is the best time to enroll a kid to a swimming lesson? Anyone?

I don't have children, but when I was little Mom and Dad made sure that my sister and I had swimming lessons. To this day neither of us has any problems in the water. We swim comfortably and easily.

My children just did it. No lessons. They started out with the arm floaties and then the next year they were off! We didn't put them through any lessons. They just took to it naturally, like a fish to water. I think it will happen in their own time. They can not be rushed. I learned the same way. If it is a fun environment, they will learn :)
