How lovely for you, nanajanet! I have been to Rome, Florence and Venice - and I wish I could go again now I'm older and able to appreciate it more. For me, Venice was absolutely magical. I must say, Italian people are some of the friendliest and most welcoming in the world - and if you get a chance, a trip to Pompeii is unforgettable and amazing. Enjoy your trip!

BTW, Pompeii is on our list. We will be in Sorrento for a week and will take trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri and other things nearby.

You know what? Dreams are not just dreams if they become goals. This is a HUGE trip for us (a month in Italy). We did not have the money for it but started planning for it anyway. It's amazing how we managed to come up with the money, anyway. If you plan it and say it will happen, it does, even if you have to find ways to do it for less, and there is so much info out there on how to do it, too. We are renting apartments because it's so much cheaper than hotels, and we will save on meals by doing most of our own cooking, etc. Never say never!!!

If you go to Italy, you absolutely MUST go to Venice, absolutely must, especially St. Mark's Square and the cathedral there. It is absolutely beautiful, and so very awe-inspiring. Not just because of the architecture, but the culture just wraps around you there, the romance, and to see it at sunset is so very inspiring. I would also definitely recommend going to Milan. It's not just a well-known fashion destination - there is a lot of history there, and a lot of really artistic locations that are perfect snapshots for homemade postcards. A word of advice - when I was there a few years ago, my friends and I were stopped by locals and asked (in Italian) if they could have a picture with us. This can be very entertaining, but beware - pickpockets are everywhere in Europe.

Thanks!! Yes, we are going a day to Venice. Since we are going for a month, one week we stay in Florence and have our train tickets to Venice. I can't wait. We know about the pickpockets and are prepared for that. We have traveled in other places with pickpockets. We use Pascafe bags, pouches, etc. They are made with steel mesh lining and steel cable in the straps. They are great because, unless we are stupid enough to just let it lay around, they can't be cut. The guys are wearing pacsafe neck pouches that go under their shirts. My sister turned me onto them and they are great! I don't know if we will get to Milan, this time, but it's not out of the question. If not, next time, for sure.
