Is it true that Moms get ugly when she's having a baby boy?

I've been hearing that statement around pregnant women. When an expecting mom is blooming and looks really pretty and pinkish, people would say, "Ah! You'll have a baby girl" But when she looks ugly and really awful, people would tell her, "Shucks, you'll have a baby boy". Why is that? Is there any scientific explanation? Or is it just another of those pregnancy myths? Why would a mother's looks be affected by a baby's gender? It's just confusing. When I asked people about it though, they just give me that contemplative look and then that "Pity -you-you're-dumb" look. Then tell me, "It's always like that". Like smart people are supposed to know that and stupid people don't. Uh-uh, what an explanation! Maybe you can explain things better? What do you think?

I haven't heard that before but, since I have 2 sons, I suppose it explains a lot ...

I have had a boy and a girl. I have never heard such a thing about how you look when you are pregnant indicating having a boy or a girl.

Maybe it's just a myth here in the Philippines... It's a pretty known "theory" here.

hi maplekisses no it is not true that moms get ugly when she is having aboy or pretty with a girl. if the mom is pretty she wil be pretty whether she has a boy or girl, and if she is ugly she will be ugly no matter what. where on earth did you hear this, sounds like old wives tales to me. made up stuff. there is no truth to it what so ever.no wonder people looked at you funny they were suprised you believed that nonsense.

Hahaha... that's really cruel, "if she's ugly, she'll be ugly no matter what" LOL... But well to answer your question, I got that belief here in the Philippines and it's really popular here anyways :)

I've never heard that, but I'm sure it's a myth, maple_kisses. During my pregnancies, there were times I felt pretty sick (and looked horrible), and times I felt happy and blooming. I think you go through different stages within the same pregnancy. I don't think you're being dumb at all - it's a perfectly reasonable question!

Thanks for that guybrush, been hunting some medical explanation and found none so it must be a myth...
