Do you eat your child's leftovers?...

Or do they go straight to the trash can?... My baby always have untouched leftover food in on her plate... and with the currect food prices and economic crisis... i cannot bear to see food go to waste... so i feel compelled to finish everything... and that is the case every meal we have together... i end up eating all her leftovers... but i feel a sense of contentment since there was no good food to be thrown in the trash can... How about you... do you eat you child's leftovers... or do you let your pets do the dirty work?...

how old is your child my dear? i have four children and during the years were they are still young i only eat their left overs when in party. but at home i make it sure that what i put on their plate is what they will finish. if i know that they dont like the food so much i dont put a lot. i make sure i put enough but if the want more then i can give them second serving. if they will not finish their food they cant watch tv. if your child is still young around 2-4 years old then i think it is an excuse just make sure that you put small amount for her so no food get wasted. if your child is around 5 i think you need to train him but always start with a little serving then he can get more if he wants more.

My baby is only two years old... so she doesn't have a concept of "finish your food or else" yet... but i am slowly training her to do it... so for now... i get to eat all the leftovers since we do not have a dog or cat to do the dirty job... thanks for the respnse...

I agree with roni. I do the same thing to my son. he is 9 and he doesn't always eat alot. So i just put a small serving on his plate and if he wants more, then i get him some more. But only small servings so that way i know he will eat them. And if he doesn't eat the first helping, then he doesn't get dessert. Like roni said, just give them a small helping at a time so that way they won't waste the food.

I have taught my kids to take small amounts till they are full as to not waste as much. But the animals do get the occasional left overs when the kids just cant finish what they took. i dont eat it because my kids tend to put weird stuff on their food sometimes like ketchup on everything. My youngest even loves an oreo dunked in ketchup yuck right?

Oh my... if that is the case... i don't think i can eat my child's leftovers... i think i will also train her not to put weird stuff on her food... i don't like ketsup... and we don't have any at home... so the oreos are pretty safe in my home... thanks for the response...

I use to eat my children's left overs now they are grown and I do not. My hubby was worse at eating all the left overs. He will not leave a restaurant if there is ice tea in the glass or fluid in his glass. I keep telling him it is OK to leave a glass of water or ice tea. He says he feels guilty if he does. He will gorge himself to eat the last bite instead of letting it go into the trash. I keep telling him to let it go. He is gaining so much weight.

For kids who are under 5... that is still acceptable... when when they are older... they should finish everything on their plate... your husband must be a very practical person... eating everything on the table... sometimes i do that too... since i don't gain weight anyway... but sometimes i get tired from doing it so i just let it be... thanks for the response...

To be frank, I don't like eating my child's leftovers. However, I don't like wasting food. So I will tell my child to finish his food because the food is very precious. There are many people in the world who are starving. I love China

No i don't eat my childrens leftover due to the fact that i am a vegetarian and only one of my five children is vegetarian as well. He rarely has leftovers as he is a very good eater. The leftovers usually go to the dogs so they are not wasted.

I have been known to do it, ive gotten better about not doing it, cuz im trying to watch my eating habits, and those few nibbles he dont eat that i end up eating all add up. For the most part my son clears his plate regardless how much i put on it, but in some occasions yes i have been known to eat it. I use to do it so much when he was even younger that when he was full he said "mommy you eat it i done" what a wake up call to think that he realized how often i did it to where he expected it..that is about the time i stopped doing it so much..and ive noticed it has helped me in my weight. You would be surprised how little bits add up.

I don't have any weight problem since i really don't gain any... no matter what or how much i eat... so eating all the leftovers is not really a problem... but my baby already has this habit of putting the food in my mouth when she doesn't want it anymore... i think that is still cute... thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy your stay here...

This is a subject dear to my heart! When my daughter was a newborn she stuck her hand in her father's mashed potatoes. Without thinking, he placed her hand in his mouth and sucked the potatoes off of it. This was while we were sitting in the restaurant. When my youngest daughter was a toddler, whe would chew the soft part of the bread and leave the spit covered crust on her plate. Then, her dad would pickup the crust, unbeknownst to him that she had mouthed it so much. The look on his face as he was placing it in his mouth was priceless! I laughed a good laugh at that one. Kids, ya gotta love 'em!

That is like the sweetest story i have ever heard... that is very common for mothers to do... but it is very rare for fathers to just gobble up their childrens leftover food... my husband sure doesn't do that... that is a memory worth remembering forever... thanks for sharing this...

I got two children, one is 4 years old and the other is a year old. The 4 year old is a very picky eater and just wanted chicken nuggets, pizza or pasta. I just give her enough for her to finish and if she doesn't finish it, I will save it for later or I sometimes eat it. My 1 year old, I do the same but usually most of the food ends up on the floor or on the high chair. I understand at this age, she is still fascinated with food. I don't mind eating my children's left over because I am the one making the food.

Hi aseretdd, I have no kids but I will share my mom and friend's story. They always eat the leftover of their kids. They are the one who prepare it so they are very sure it is of course clean..LOL! And with the heavy and valid reason you mentioned, with the crisis today and thinking million of people who are not eating 3 times a day, it's sad to be throwing food also. If the leftover is enough for the pet, that will be good but it's a lot for them, mom will always have the rest..Enjoy!

I so agree with you... with the current crisis... and even without it... still... a lot of people are starving... so wasting food is like next to sin... and if there are no pets around... then the only option is for us mothers to finish the leftover of the kids... thanks for the response...

If you're a mom - you usually do. Whether it is just to save food, not waste it or just to grab a bite for yourself...that is just what mom's do!

good day.. I eat or finish the left over of my fiancee. I can't bear it to throw it in the bin. With many people going hungry in our country, I dare not waste any food.

when i babysit my neice I always pick at her food while I am making her eat because she eats so little and then it goes to waste so I never make myself dinner or lunch I just have her leftovers, and I just love when its mac & cheese.

my son rarely has leftovers. because i make sure that i am giving him the right amount of food he can eat. i don't give him too much. but if he has leftovers, i surely eat it. i was taught by my father not to left foods on our plates coz there are those people suffering from scarcity of food and here you are wasting what you have...of course, at this point in time my son wouldn't understand it yet coz he's only two...but when time comes, i would surely teach him the value of not wasting food.

The way the price of food is getting it is really hard for me to dump a bunch of food in the trash. I try to save what I can in containers or sandwich bag and maybe have them for myself the next day or something. I try to stear myself away from eating all of mine and then some of someone elses. When I think there may be some going to waste I will try to eat less myself so I can finish my child's leftovers without waste or additional calories.

That is very smart of you... less waste and less calories... i don't worry about the calories... since it is difficult for my body to gain weight... no matter what or how much i eat... so i take in as many as i can as long as there is zero or very minimal food to waste... thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd, *Laughs* I just talked about it with my husband the night before. He told me to make sure I put just enough food on the baby's plate for him to eat and don't let him wastes too much. In reply, I told my husband that we should eat the leftover instead of throwing it but to be very careful as we can't really sure of my son's 'cleanliness' *laughs*

I had an arguement with my husband about that... when he was still home... he would put all our baby's leftover food inside the fridge when i am not around... and that will just stay there for days... since i go to work everyday... so i told him to just eat it or throw it away if he doesn't want to... thanks for the response...

As a boy I used to like baby food. When I could I would take a little bottle of it and put it down. My mother used to shout at me for doing this. There's nothing wrong with food. Any kind of food, once edible, can be eaten. If its good for a baby then it must be good for you. So, why not ?

I don't have a child but I did hear from my officemate before that she does eat some of her children's leftovers. Mainly for the reason that she doesn't want to see food go to waste. I do not recall in my childhood if my parents ever did ate our leftovers. They must have had.

I am not married yet but I still remembered when I was small, my mum used to eat my leftover. Whenever she saw the leftovers, she would feel like was a waste of food that she would just finish all the leftovers. So normally when we had our meals outside,my mum would not order an extra plate of meal for herself instead she would just share with us.
