i believe we have gone on a vacation one time or another in our life. how do you make your travel plans? do you go to the travel agent and see what's on offer? or do you decide on a destination then check out the deals available. i'd like to do my own research on my next destination. going to the travel agent and see what's on offer seem so reactive. what if there isn't any offer on an interesting destination? am i going to be stuck somewhere i know i wouldn't like in the first place? tell me about how you arrive at your decision :p

how do you make your travel plans? Well, I will usually see which are the days I can take leave off work. Then I decide where I want to go. Then I go check out the various agency that would offer the packages to the destination I want to go to. do you go to the travel agent and see what's on offer? Yes. Now a days, agencies will offer a few kind of packages. One is a guided tour where the local guide will bring you all the way there and all the way back. The other is the semi guided, where you have more time on a fixed set of destinations in the itenery. The third one is just accommodation. They will book your flights and the accommodation. But you have to do the hotel transfer yourself. And if you go at the right months, you can also clinch a good deal with lots of freebies thrown in! do you decide on a destination then check out the deals available? Of course. So many places to go, so many packages to choose from for each destination. If you do not know where to go, how to choose the package? Aiyoh... leave is precious for a working adult. Especially where one has a family. So pre-planning is a must, be it going for a free and easy or a package tour. what if there isn't any offer on an interesting destination? Then you plan to go the next time loh. No point going to a holiday just for the sake of going. Spend hard earned, sweat and blood money and not enjoy the trip is as good as flushing money down the toilet. If that is the case, then it would be better if you spend that money on some spa package and pamper yourself if you HAVE to clear your leave due to some company quota. am i going to be stuck somewhere i know i wouldn't like in the first place? Well, if you are with free and easy, that is not the problem. It is with packages that you may face some of these problems. Well, one way to avoid that is to study the packages available. Then make lots of enquiries. Based on the answers and the little research you did for the packages, you then make an informed decision on whether to go with that particular agent or not. Thumb of rule, do a little googling on the net to see reviews of the agent you are going with as well. If you do not like what you read, drop the agent and move on to the other. If you so much as have doubts, better to listen to it and not spend it on some agent that will only bring you more frustration rather than joy on the trip. Hope that answers most of your queries.

Thanks for the best response my friend. It is good that you are able to find the time to do research for the countries you are visiting. I am aiming to do that some time. It could be pretty exciting to be planning for a trip, doesn't it?

i totally agree with you on the destination part. why waste money going to a place just for the sake of it? as for the leave part, i'm glad that my job offers me a degree of flexibility. so i can take leave pretty much to my own schedule. truth to be told, i've only gone on self-planned holidays. i will book the air-ticket from the airline and the hotel from those hotel-booking sites. i've not actually booked a travel package from a travel agency before. ;p

I use to work in a travel agency and I tell people the same thing all the time! Shop around! Price all depends when your leaving and when you fly home, its better in the middle of the week and suprisingly sometimes on a holiday! And if its their high or low season at the destination! I would 100% check with a few agencies but you can also tell them what you find and see if they get it cheaper. Check all the travel sites, expedia, cheapseats, libertytravel, the airlines directly have packages, gogo, apple vacations! There are soooo many to choose from. There are always deals if you travel agent says their isnt a deal for ANYWHERE, you need to get a new agent! It might not be the destination you want but it might also give you some ideas! Good luck with the planning!!!

yes i do comparisons all the time. once i've decided where to go, i'll start looking for air ticket deals. i watch out for promotions in my local newspaper. as for hotels, i'll check with the various hotel-booking websites. different sites offer better deals for different hotels. so far it has worked great for me. thanks for posting ;)

I usually pick destination and then i check prices and pick traveling agency. After that i pick hotel that is good but not too expensive. And after that i check on weather to pick time when i will go to vacation.

that's exactly what i do too. i want to be sure that the country i'm visiting is somewhere i want to be. no point paying tons of money and land up in some country that i'll never love. do you check prices online or do you go down to the agency personally? as for hotels, as long as it's clean i'm not too particular. afterall, i'm not spending that much time in the room. cheers ;p
