How Do You Beat The Heat Without Air Conditioning?

It's hot and muggy here where I live and shows no signs of cooling off any time soon. I do have air conditioners in several rooms, but with the price of electricity, I'm not using them all the time and usually only when we are sleeping. My question is, how do you beat the heat without air conditioning and what works for you? I do have fans and they help somewhat, but what other things can I do to keep myself cool during the day without turning on the A/C?

Yikes this is a difficult question. Do you have an attic fan perhaps? They do use half the electricity of an air conditioner. You could raise the windows and turn that on. Make sure you run your fans. They often make it seem cooler than it really is. Where less clothing when your at home.

Yes, I do have an attic fan and it turns on automatically when the attic reaches a certain temperature. It does make somewhat of a difference, but not enough in this humidity. I also run all the ceiling fans and I dress lightly. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's hard, real hard lol! I have aircon here too and I try to avoid it too. I don't quite like aircon to be honest. Too much aircon freezes me up and it is bad for air circulation too. I try to use the fan in the day and make do with the weather.
