Ill Miss My Sugar.

Well today was not a fun day. Turns out there were a few issues with my glucose test yesterday at my pre natal visit. One I am anemic no big deal I just have to take some Iron pills. But now I guess my blood sugar level is not right. So today I had to spend three hours in the clinic having another test. I couldnt eat for 10 hours and well thats never a good idea while pregnant lol. And they took my blood four times. Im so tired after it I came home and slept for like three hours. So now I wait and see the results and what it means for me and the baby. So do you know anything about pregnancy related diabeties? My internet is so slow I cant look up any sites right now.

I have a friend who had blood sugar problems when she was pregnant. After the baby was born it was normal again. I think it is fairly common from what she said. I have been anemic a few times myself. They told me to stop drinking tea with my meals and not to eat ice which surprised me. I didn't know either of those things had anything to do with anemia.

Ice really that could be my issue then. I wonder why ice would be an issue?

hi minnie sure to hear you might have gestational diabetes as if you do,you will have to monitor your blood glucose very carefully but if so the doctors will tell you just what to do. some people who do have gestational diabetes do go on to become full fledged diabetes but thats usually people who do not watch their weight and keep it pretty normal and do not get a lot of exercise.you with two boys and one girl on the way I am sure get plenty of exercise. I am a diabetic and also had gestational diabetes but was not told at that time, fifty years back, to watch my weight or I could later on become a real diabetic so I goofed up on the weight and the exercise when I could have prevented all this had I known. as far as I know even if you were to have gestational diabetes, you wont become a diabetic if you just take care to not get overweight and do exercise most days.Babies born to a mom with gestational diabetes tend to weigh more a nd are bigger babies than normal. dont worry about it as the doctor will explain allthis if it does prove out you have gestational diabetes, on the other hand you could really not have them at all. so dont fret yourself.

Just got the call now my test was good. I thought it was odd as I eat a pretty well balanced diet. I ate before my first test as I was not told not to and that is why it was wrong. So all is good so far thankfully.

Hi minnie, I have no idea about that case and not heard also any of my friend who experienced the same during their pregnancy...I hope that the result will turn out negative about diabetic...but, I guess when it is treated early, it is not hazardous at all to the pregnant mother and the baby, but if not treated for sure, babies will have some deffects and might born having that illness with him/her!

It can adversely affect the baby because the raised sugar level can effect the baby. One thing it does is babies of diabetics are often larger than normal, and after the baby is born there is a chance that the baby could go into a low blood sugar situation. Low blood sugar can be as dangerous as high.

I dont know a whole lot about it other than that my mom developed it when she was pregnant with me and that it never did go away afterwards. With my youngest sister she had to follow special meal plans and test her blood sugars after every meal. She even had insulin needles to give herself to fix the blood sugars if they were off.

If your blood sugars are off, I do not know if you do what non pregnant people do to stay on top of things. Lean proteins, protein snacks, regular exercise. Watch your carbs.

If it is of any consulation. My brother had Type 1 Diabetes and my whole family had to suffer for it. We all lost a lot of weight because of his diet. Now, I am not too familiar with prenatal diabetes, but I assume that it is a lot like Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, you have to watch what you eat, and you have to take very good care of yourself.

just like i told you minnie, my sister too is pregnant and she experienced that no eating for 10 hours and the clinic got her blood four times and that was every hour. her doctor said that there are instances were diabetis occur during pregnancy, there are cases like that. so to prevent that they want to check it to make sure you and your baby are alright. if they find that your sugar is too high then you need to choose i low sugar diet. goodluck. hope we can hear from you about the results.

Hmmm, I would think if you had gestational diabetes they would tell you right away? I know they will monitor you and you will have to watch your diet, but it usually goes away after the baby is born. If you do have gestational diabetes, you will most likely have to deliver early. Mabe it's something else altogether too. What causes the anemia? Maybe it's all related? Let us know, minnie!

Hi Minnie, I can sympathize with you on this one. I have 4 children and with each one of these pregnancies I had gestational diabetes, or pregnancy induced diabetes. It was not fun taking the 4 hour glucose tolerance tests that you took today. Trust me - been there done that too many times to count! Well, it probably not be the first time in this pregnancy for you to take the test. Sorry to tell you that. If your blood sugar is too high they will tell you to limit your sugar and your carb intake during your pregnancy. If you have diabetes it means you have too much sugar in your blood the opposite is hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. If your sugar level remains too high then your baby's sugar level may become too low and he/she might develop hypoglycemia. None of my children ever got that so thank goodness for that. None of my babies were larger either but that could be another side effect. Your doctor will continue to monitor the sugar in your urine and maybe blood throughout your pregnancy. Just do not drink a can of soda or eat a cookie before you go to the doctor. LOL! I did one time and they had a fit. Hey - I'm human you know! Another time that the doctor got on me was I had a slice of my cake at my baby shower and went to the doctor the following day. My sugar was WAY up and they asked me what I had been eating. I told them about the cake and then they scolded me. But whatever, it was one time and one time is not a really big deal. Just try to avoid excess sugars that is all. Just hang in there, avoid excess sugary food and excess pasta, bread, etc. I know it sucks but it is only for a few months until the baby is born. I hope this helps you. Your doctor will take care of you and your baby - try not to worry. The fun starts once that little baby gets here. THEN you can worry!

hi minnnie.pregnany related diabetes is very common to get.i actually do the testing for that, and have come across many women who have it.it just that your hormones are crazy at the moment and that makes the sugars all wacky,so you will be monitored from the midwives if you have it,and usually after you give birth ,it usually goes away.speak to your midwives they will explain it better.it is so common for women to have a 2 hour glucose challenge as the earlier glucose chalenges are not fasting and if you have eaten a nice sugary sweet or something prior to having the test ,you will get a high reading.you probably have nothing to worry about as most women who do the fasting gtt their results come back fine.cheers sue

Hi minnie. I hope your test will turn out well. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I developed a high blood sugar level which was the cause of my hypertension. I was given medication (suitable for pregnant women), and was advised to go on a low sugar and low carbo diet. After I delivered my 2nd child, my high blood sugar developed into diabetes. Then when I got pregnant with my 3rd, I was really at risk and had to be careful because of my hypertension due to high blood sugar level. I wasn't surprised, we have a family history of diabetics.

Be sure to have your cholesterol checked as well as the 3 of these (blood glucose levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure) tend to go together and are known as the metabolic syndrome.

My ex-wife had gestational diabetes. What happens is the baby grows too fast. They had to induce her 2 weeks early because my son was already 11 pounds.

Well, I will hit you with the worst I know first: I have a very good friend who was very fit and healthy, but she developed gestational diabetes, and it never went away. That was nine years and three kids ago. I imagine that test was awful. Usually gestational diabetes dissipates once the baby is born. It makes for very large babies who are developmentally more like premies. That is about all I can tell you. Hope you find that it was a false alarm.

They thought that I might have gestational diabetes with my daughter. I had to go back for a second test. Turns out I did not though. Thank goodness. I guess no more sweets for breakfast for you for a little while.

I don't know much about that but I know how horrible the test is, I am sorry you had to go through it, but once you have your baby it should go away, hopefully :) I'm hoping the rest of your pregnancy is much better from now on though. Best wishes.

From what I've heard, pregnancy-related diabetes goes away once you've had the baby! Try not to worry, minnie!
