How do you know a PTC has closed down?

Most won't tell, they'll just close and you loose. But how do you know they closed of just deleted your account for some odd reason that they won't disclose? Pay2Surf.net - good site - racking up the pennies - cash out is $40 and I was close to half way there. Now today, I click my usual favplace and get "Not Found" page. Is this "not found" page, mean the site has pulled off the internet (ergo closed itself) or does it mean they have deleted my account and just didn't bother to tell me and don't want me to ask and have closed off my access to that site? Any comments?

There is also the possibility that the site was hacked or is down due to a bad server or whatever. That has happened to me on a couple programs recently. In one case I sent the owner an e-mail and he said his site had been hacked and he restored my access. The other one was just having temporary technical difficulties.

Yeah, it was working today. I would just think that they'd have something like "down for maintenance" or something relates, other than just 'Can't find the page" . That just makes members nervous!

I am sorry for your loss. That is exactly why I prefer sites that have smaller payouts. You never know who is honest or not. All you can do is check sites that reveal scammers and get recommendations from others who have been paid. I try to get as many small payouts as fast as I can so if the site closes, I'll already have most of my money. Life can be hard online.

It was recommened to me and the high cash out wasn't a concern. I don't mind one high amount as opposed to smaller ones. IN a way I looked at it as those might be the better ones - cash out a $1, doesn't sound very "strong" of the company - lot of work for them to do over a buck. But a higher amount, I thought it could mean they are more serious about it all.

I have and I am. The $40 cash out minimum would have turned many away but I worked it anyway.

The site hasnt disappeared i got the same message earlier and a bit ago went back to it and now their site come up but says THANK YOU FOR PATIENCE DURING SERVER MAINTENANCE. Of course who knows how long that will be, some sites its a day some a few days, jsut depends on who they ahve working on it. I wouldnt worry yet, so far no probs with the site other than this.

IT happened before and now this week - 2 days in a row, but now today - it is back. So I guess I'll just give them time ther first time around! I just hear many stories about them closing and not paying members.

If the site uses paypal you can file a complaint at paypal for fraud.
