What do you want to be when you grow up?

Who said when they were little I want to be an overwieght out of work mother of five? Or how about a factory worker with 2.5 kids and a mortgage? Yeah me either. I wanted to be a lawyer or a truck driver. Lol I know big difference! I am neither, and now I am 36 and wondering is it too late to be what I want to be when I grow up? I did try the truck driving thing, hated it!! But at least I know. What was your dream or is your dream and why did you not pursue it? Or if you did was it all you hoped it would be?

I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a little kid but everybody just laughed at me. What 8 year says they want to be a lawyer? But, later in life I went the route of a Paralegal, I loved it! I wanted to work for about 7 years as a Paralegal and get some experience so when I went to law school I could go into private practice knowing what I knew and I wouldn't have to rely on anybody but myself. Well, I took the LSAT, scored in the top 10 and had everything lined up to go to law school in Tulsa, OK. But, God had other plans for me, better plans. Now I'm being pursuaded to go into ministry. God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called. Now I mostly write about things, that's my dream, to be a life changing author, not just a best selling one.

Hey I have been wondering where you went to! Nice to see you again. I love your response. Are you happier now that you have answered the call on your life? I am betting yes?

We just got back from church camp, so I took a few days away from the computer. We leave next week for about 7 days so I won't be on myLot for a while next week. Yes, I'm happy with how my life is going. I'm blessed.

I first wanted to be a ballerina, then a doctor. I am neither - too clumsy to dance, not interested in biology or human anatomy. So now I'm in professions that were never heard of in those days - computer and marketing. No regrets - I've enjoyed both these jobs.

Like someone already said shewolf; It's never to late to pursue your dreams. Interestly enough, no one in my family ever took the time to ask the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up". If they did, I sure don't remember it. Back then we were raised pretty much with the idea that men just went out and got a job that would support their family. Ladies were taught to stay home and have babies and take care of the house. I was put to work, working in the family business when I was old enough to count. Then, became a waitress in a fancy restaurant when I turned 16. Not too long after that I went to school to become a hairdresser. I did that for 30 years. Remember the old song "she was gonna be an actress and I was gonna learn to fly"....well, my 'stage' was work and family. Now that I'm older, I've pursued some of those dreams I had as a child. I'm glad I did, but they all made me realize what I loved most - staying home and taking care of my home and family. That's where I'm the happiest. Old school I guess, but it suits me. I just wish I would have done it sooner and forgotten about the college degree.

I am a firm believer that it is never too late to pursue a dream. Don't worry about age because you'll still get older whether you do what it is that you desire to do or not. Might as well be older and happy, instead of wishing you could have done things differently. I wanted to be quite a few things, but the main things were a pharmacist, actor, judge, entrepreneur and pianist. Now I am going to school to be a nurse while taking courses and utilizing the internet for my other interests. I plan to pursue my other interests eventually. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way and throws you the unexpected.

Great discussion to start! I'm glad someone decided to post this. I'm 28 and my hubby is four years younger than me. He makes me feel as though I still young. We married a little over a year ago and I'm glad we did. I decided to start over and pursue a dream of mine to become a teacher. My hubby is a Marine in the US military. Yes, we are having trouble financially and we have a lot of work that needs to be done, but there's still time. I'm not giving up yet and believe we all have time to change our lives around. We must have faith and think positive about the future. Good luck to you in the future.
