Can somebody give your views about this line

I think they don't share the same views. While the father doesn't want any physical confrontation just to prove that you're a man but the son is in a predicament when fighting becomes a necessity in order to become a man...

It depends on what context it is put in. If it relates to fighting other people physically then guys don't need to do it. I would be a lot better if you develop skills to diffuse those kinds of situations and deal with it in a way that does not involve violence. However, if it relates to fighting to overcome what life throws at you then that line would be silly as if you don't fight to keep your dreams alive then what purpose would you live for? There would be no sweetness in life and nothing to look forward to.

I know this song because my mom liked him and so does my fiance . I dont mind him either Meaning you don't have to fight to be a man meaning that sometimes it is better to walk away from all the jerks , and dont have to prove yourself in the macho way . Maybe that is what it means . Also, sometimes you have to fight meaning : stand up for the loved ones , and if someone would ever say anything about your partner .A time and a palce for everything . Maybe has to be a good reason , but should never have to prove yourself to no one .

I have always loved this song and it has always held a special place with me because the words are so true, while it is not cowardly to avoid physical confrontation, there are many things in this life that are worth fighting and even dieing for, my wife and daughter for example, if anyone did anything to either of them I would have to take action. Love is the one thing that no man should ever be able to walk away from.

I think it means that you do not have to fight to proof you are manly, but if there is a need to fight you should step up like the man you are and defend whatever needs defending.

As long as there are wars and aggressors,I guess we must fight. In nature,I have seen crows and ravens eating together. They usually are enemies,but there was enough food for all,therefor no aggression. (we feed creatures) Our bunny went out and played with wild racoons. They were not hungry so they didn't chase the bunny. But I don't lnow about cats and mice!

This song is also one of my favorite. In the song, the father is telling the son, not to become a criminal like him. That many things and problems can be resolved or fixed without using the fist. That is why he is telling the son, "Son, you don't have to fight to be a man". But in life, there are things that cannot be solved without using some form of violence. In the real world, this could mean physical force by the police. Or the cane by the law... etc. In the song, the son's wife was violated by some stranger. How could a man stand by and let his wife be rape and not bring the rapist to justice? And so he did. That is why he explain to his father "Dad, sometime you have to fight to be a man" Listen to the story that is being told and you will see the context of these two statements.

There are times when you just have to do battle in one form or another. If I remember correctly (I remember when the song first came out, decades ago!), they did something to his girlfriend--he had to retaliate in order to prevent that ever happening to someone else's girl, and to restore his girl some self-respect.
