Do You Prefer to Socialise At Home With Friends Or To Go Out?

More people seem to stay at home these days as it is cheaper to entertain at home rather than to go out. Which do you prefer? What type of things do you like to do? For example a small gathering with buffet bites or a lavish dinner party? Go out on the town dancing or a quiet meal in a restaurant?

Hi ellie,
Well, really I prefer to go out with a few friends to our local pub, its very quiet in there since the smokeing bann. I don't like to have any garthering at home hubby gets in the way and I ends up doing all the washing up and doing the food. I had a dinner party not so long ago and I was so shattered it didn't enjoy myself, all my husband did was chatter to the guest, no help at all useless git!
Love & XXX
Tamara

Oh I am sure your hubby is useful for some things I know what you mean about entertaining at home though but my friends know I will serve first drink then its a help yourself as I don't do hostess. I do enjoy socialising at home but then I haven't a hubby to get in the way Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie-you and I are lucky-you don't know Tamara's husband I do and he is as useless as what she says though as you say he is useful WHEN he wants to be or mainly when he NEEDS to be and is always grumpy about it huggles littleowl

I think that it all depends on the occasion Ellie. In the days when we had a dining table and chairs too we would often entertain at home. We'd have supper parties of a running buffet (is that a buffet for joggers?). But we have entertained in restaurants and we do like the occasional picnic. On balance though, I'd sooner have a small number of good friends at home. How about you?

Didn't notice the typo! I prefer a small group of friends round to the house or a large group of all age groups on a picnic on the beach. It means whilst some are socialising others are paddling in the water with the kids etc. I do like to eat out though in the evenings, my clubbing days are over but occasionally I will let my hair down usually if my eldest and a group of her friends persuade me to go be the oldest swinger in town! LOL. Ellie :D

Oh I have spent so much time reading yours and Goodies fun in the name discussion that I have only just seen this. Well reading and laughing at that I am definitely not the oldest swinger in town which makes me feel really good but it has reminded me of a dress I had especially made for me when I went to Monte Carlo when Jess was small that I still have in my wardrobe and the girls used it as a witches costume last halloween!!! it was the punk wedding suit bit that jogged the memory. I definitely prefer to have a quiet meal in a restaurant when spending time with friends. Although I love to entertain at home, it takes so much effort and energy, that I just can't muster it up.
Going to a restaurant is just so stressfree for me, that's my choice.
You've got another great discussion going, ellie333.

I think your hostessing style sounds quite relaxed and fun! Yes, ordering a pizza is a great way to entertain and everybody tends to enjoy it. And I also prefer people making themselves at home. You gave me some wonderful ideas, ellie333!

Hi PearlGrace, Thank you for your kind words. I get lost sometime to know what to post as I am sure we all do. I love to have a meal out in a quiet restaurant too but it is affording it a lot of the time so prefer to have friends round, dishwasher fixed now though and I must admit I will cheat a lot and order pizza for all and after first served drink they get there own. Not a traditional hostess at all, even if people pop round after the first cup of tea they know where the kettle is for the next one. Home from home my house. LOL. Ellie :D

I would much rather have a night out to socialise, it is much more fun. I might have to save up for a month or two first but I would definately go out on the town. I have never been one for socialising at home, it just does not feel the same drinking in the house, I have always been one for pubs and nightclubs, although I do like having a meal out too.

Oh Gemini I love to go to a pub with live music but don't get to very often and clubbing well it would take me a fortnight to recover these days I think LOL. I love to eat out but enjoy having friends round rather than go out. Before my son my weekend started on a Thursday and quite often went through til the Monday but I have calmed down now and prefer just a few friends, a bite to eat and a bit to drink indoors. Ellie :D

Sunday is still my day of vegging with or without a night out before. I remember driving from Surrey to Nottingham to see a mate in a band once and driving back home in time to jump in the shower and get changed for work and then when I got home from work to shower and change again before going out again for the evening clubbing. Age has caught up I definitely couldn't do that one now, just the driving alone would wear me out LOL. Ellie :D

where we have burgers and fries and talk our fool

You enjoy a mean meal then do you Hatley! I knew what you meant and I always make my typos in the actual discussions I post so no worries there. Yes a quiet meal is lovely to go out to have and I enjoy that too but I do most of my socialising at home these days as babysitters are very expensive per hour here and I wouldn't leave my son with just anyone so my friends tend to come to me. Thank you for sharing. Huggles. Ellie :D

I would love to be able to get out more - just out for a nice meal and then a few drinks at the pub but I can very rarely do that - another favourite is the pub quiz but I haven't been able to do that in over a year but it would still be my preferred socialising if I could! xxx

I really like a mixture. I do love to entertain but also like to go out and be pampered at a nice restaurant. And it depends on the occasion. In the winter around Christmas I love having guests when the house is all decorated. In the summer I really don't like the heat but if the weather is kind of nice then being outdoors is a blessing and I love eating out under proper conditions! LOL

Beyond the cost, I have always preferred entertaining at my home or at my friends. It is more personal and relaxed and you can get to know each other better. I don't like crowds or big events. We do occassionally go out but I think it is fun to have a few friends over and play cards, have a few drinks or just hang out.

Hi Sid, I agree it is much more relaxing at home with a few friends round than to go out. When I was younger I used to be out all the time but I don't go out often at all now unless to other friends or special occasion events. I do like to go for a meal though in a quiet restaurant when I can afford to. Ellie :D

We always invite folks here to eat with us. I enjoy cooking and if anyone wants to bring a dish that is great. It is too expensive to eat out or go out for us these days. I also enjoy going to other people's houses as well. It is good to be able to relax and enjoy friends or family without having to spend a fortune doing it!

Hi Shellyann, I find it much more relaxing socialising at home myself and yes far more economical. Unlike you I am not a great cook so if it is at mine it tends to be a takeout and if at friends they cook. It is far too expensive to eat out I agree but do enjoy it every once in a while. Ellie :D

I like to go out. Dancing would be my favorite.
Eating in restaurant is not on my favorite list for sure.
I have bad headaches after eating out. I prefer to eat at home.

Hi ellie,
Welcome back and I am glad to hear from you again!
I will prioritize the inexpensive one..LOL! Socializing at home with friends will be ideal for me since we have a lot of privacy plus, we can save a lot, from gas to any high prices of food...I would love also to have different venue each gathering like this time, I'll be the host and friends will just contribute whatever they want to then by the next time, another friend will offer to be the host, so , it will be another venue!

Well, I would much rather be at home hanging out with friends. I don't do anything fancy, always casual. I think that maybe three times a year I go out to the club with friends. I would just prefer something mellow, peaceful, and less public.

Depends on who it is...but most of the time i rather entertain at home..one its cheaper, two you can do whatever you want and not have to worry about getting in trouble..lol. No worries of getting home safe if you drink, no worries of bar brawls..lol. You get my point. We can drink, dance, talk, at home just like we could at the bar, and heck we can even hear each other without yelling over the noise.

Hi Yes I agree with everything you have said even my daughters 21 & 17 prefer to have friends round to the home a lot of the time and I like that too as I know where they are, who they are with and that they are safe. Here in the UK there have been 5 fatal stabbing of young teenagers in just the London area alone in the last 24 hours so I worry when they do go out. Ellie :D

It is more fun to stay in with a small group of friends. You can relax and be more yourself in such a setting.
