My boss is too stupid to pay me.

OK, here's the quick version: I NEED MONEY!! I was laid off on 6/20/08, told I would receive one week severance on 6/27/08. ON 6/27, I don't have the payment, and my boss is playing the "I'm in a meeting game". I get her on the phone at the eleventh hour, to find out that my severance will be processed ONE WEEK after I sign the severance agreement. SO WHAT DO I DO?? I get off my tookus and on Monday morning I drive down and sign the severance agreement!!! So NOW I should be receiving 2 weeks severance + 2 paid vacation days on 7/11. GUESS WHAT'S NOT HERE!!!Glargh!! I need some useful, practical advice here, cause all I can think to do is drive down there and kick her shins till I get paid. And someone I don't think that will work!!Oh, and I did talk to NJ Wages and Collections, and from what I understand, it is quite the lengthy process to use them to enforce the contract!

Step one - BREATHE Step two - DON'T kick her in the shin...that will get you in jail - although you won't need money there so you can kick her if you want :-) Step three - write your exboss a professional letter stating all of the above; AND add that you except this matter to be resolved within seven days and if not your attorney will follow up Step four - have the letter mailed with signature required so you know she got it Step five - type your butt off here in mylot to get some cash :-) :-)

I hope it all works out for you. I know it's hard especially when the bills are pillin' up and the companies aren't very sympathetic.

Ok... In (count of three)... Out (count of three)... I've been pretty good about corresponding through email, I know enough to get a paper trail. Issue is, I expected this money two weeks ago, I owe my car payment, and its beyond the grace period late and they are expecting the payment TODAY! In, out... Thanks for the reply!

I actually have been calling her, my manager is "working on it" to get me an answer, but she's probably one of the more incompetent people I ever met!

I would start doing every thing by letter so you have a paper trail. Do you have a copy of your severance agreement? If so, if you don't get satisfaction has you thought about small claims court? Good luck. BTW, welcome to myLot.

Thanks, I've been doing email with her about it, biting my tongue HARD with each one... But she's not in the office today, so I have to go through intermediaries! If it comes to it, absolutely small claims court!!! That's my money! Thanks!
