My daughter had very long, but very unruly hair. I never wanted to cut it because I was made to have short hair when I was a child and I hated it. I prefer long hair, and wanted my daughter to be the same. However her hair just looked messy, even right after brushing it. So I finally gave in and decided I would cut it short. I asked her what she thought of the idea, and she actually got excited. She said to me that she wanted it cut short so it would be easier to brush. Amazing that she's thinking that way at only 5 years old. Now that I've got it done, I am so happy. She looks great, and after all day of not brushing it, it still looks nice. I wish I'd done it long ago.

I think that it is lovely that you actually asked your daughter what she thought, not many parents do actually consider asking their kids what they think of an idea that concerns them. I always run my ideas past them first to see what they think of it. I too was made to have short hair as a child, I hated it. I just wanted to be able to wear nice elastics and headbands in my hair like my friends were! As soon as I was old enough to make up my own mind, I grew my hair, it has been long ever since!

I don't always ask. It just dawned on me I've never asked the boys if they want a hair cut, and my oldest actually detests getting them, but I don't like the way he looks when it grows out. He is forced to shave it nearly bald, but with his looks, it's nice on him. If she had said no, I would have tried to talk her into it, and if I really wanted it done, eventually I wouldn't have given her the choice, lol.

I had really long hair until I was about 19, before having some of it cut off. I said some because I still had a very long ponytail. My daughter had really long hair until she was about 13. She asked to have it cut some. I didn't want to, but I let our beautician cut it some. She could still pull it up if she wanted. She is 37 now and her hair has been shoulder length for years. Her kids want her to grow it back out but she'll get it so far and then cut if off because it's much easier to fix before work. Her own daughter, who is 18, keeps getting her hair shorter and shorter. I loved her with long hair, but she wanted shorter hair. Your daughter is beautiful with her short hair. And I love the cut. It just goes with her sweet face. It is something for a 5 year old to want to have her hair cut so it would be easier to manage. She's growing up fast, Mom.

She sure is, and my only daughter too :( She and my youngest can age as slowly as they want to. Unfortunatly they are not going slowly. The baby just got teeth. He'll be 6 months old soon.

She looks wonderful. Good job mom. If she is happy and so are you all the better. You have time, if you change your mind, it's hair it will grow back. That's the beauty of hair. But I think the decisionis the right one judging by her smile!

I am sure it's the right one. I told her this morning I plan to keep it about this length from now on, and she is happy with that.

Like you I was forced as a child to keep my hair short and hated it with a passion so when I started having mine I went the opposite direction and would never let them get there hair cut. I have 5 daughters and let me tell you that was a lot of hair. Then the schools got a massive epidemic of head lice. Two of the girls had hair down to thier waste at the time and one of them had hair so thick she had enough to fully cover two heads. For a full year I fought them dang bugs, my kids got so they would cry when they saw me coming at them with any kind of comb but no matter how much I treated and picked it kept coming back. Finally in total frustration I asked the girls what they wanted to do, it was no suprise when they said cut it all off, (it was me after all that wanted their hair long not them) so we did every lice treatment we knew of to thier hair, threw away all the bedding, covered the matresses with plastic, bombed the house and headed to the hair salon. When we got home none of thier hair touched their coller, I was heart broke they were all thrilled. To this day more then 12 years later they all keep thier hair cut relatively short. I decided it was better to let them wear thier hair the way they want LOL.

Hi katseow! She's beautiful either way, so you had nothing to worry about. The only difference is you can see her radiant face more clearer. You should be very proud {as i can tell you are}.

Thanks. I really do love this cut though. I brushed her hair this morning and it was so easy. No crying, no snarls, the brush went through so easily. Why didn't I do this sooner?
