Why are China and Russia vetoing moves against Zimbabwe?

I believe the fact that Russia and China vetoed the UN Security Coucil resolution proved that neither country have the moral character to be a real World leader. They see what's going on in both Zimbabwe and Darfur and choose to do nothing about it. Maybe it's because both countries practice similiar type of oppression against their own people. Both countries ought to be ashamed of themselves and I will not support either country in any way. Lloyd

Russia and China will never take sides against third world countries that they might be able to use in some way in the future. Zimbabwe has such future potential. They will let the US and other Western Countries stick their necks out and spend their resources to quell the world's problems. Russia and China will just sit back and watch as we deplete our various resources trying to stop the horrors that are going on. It will make it so much easier for them when they decide to take over. I wish Russia and China do something about it. But I also wonder if the other countries try to do something when their interest in at stake. The world was more or less quiet when it comes to Rwanda, East Timor, Bosnia etc.

One explanation might be that trade between these countries is more important than human suffering. However, it has to be said that sanctions would probably have made the suffering worse. China has just been given permission to import a load of stock piled ivory from Zimbabwe. Britain voted in favour of this. A recent arms shipment from China was only prevented from entering Zimbabwe because South African dockers refused to let it unload.

I dont know why they would do such a thing. I guess it just shows they dont care about the people of the world any more than they care about their own people. It is a very unkind self centered thing to do. I dont think China should have eve been picked to host the Olympics.
