So I'm pretty excited! Just this week I was offered a volunteer position at a local animal adoption center! I will be photographing all of the animals that come in (to post on the website and Craigslist and such) as well as photographing events for the website and for promotions! I've been volunteering at this center for awhile now- as a pet sitter. But I'm really excited to be taking pictures since it combines my two passions- animals and photography! Do you do any volunteer work that involves photography?

Oh that is really cool! And so nice of you to do all that volunteer work. I used to volunteer at the humane society taking photos of any exotics (non-cats/dogs) that they had and sending them in to be posted on various websites. And also for a rabbit rescue taking their newsletter photos and photos to help the animals get adopted as well. Currently, I volunteer as a photographer with the guinea pig rescue and have put together their calendar for the past few years. I also take a lot of their event photos and photos for helping guinea pigs to get adopted. I would like to volunteer as a photographer with the marine mammal rehab I volunteer at, but they already have several very experienced professional photographers that volunteer for that. I was happy though that last year a photo I took made the cover of their calendar. Hopefully I'll be able to do more photography there in the future.

If you're using a DSLR, you should consider a lens with f/1.8 or better. The bokeh you can get is amazing, and makes doing 'puppy portraits' a breeze.

Hi trickiwoo, wow that's a nice oppurtunity! I hope that I would have that oppurtunity too, I'm now applying as a volunteer for a non-profit radio producer, and I hope that when we do things outside the office, I would get that kind of job too! Hope to see your animal photos here!
