How do you keep your cats off your computer desk?

Just now, my kitten jumped up beside my computer and tried to push my speakers into the floor and then dumped my CD-ROM discs everywhere! I had a small pile of discs laying out while I was searching for important files. And now they're laying everywhere on the ground. She does this kind of thing all the time. How do I keep the kitten off my computer desk while I'm working? Is she being mean or just mischievous?

That's a great question, lol. My cats do the same exact thing, and I think it's mainly for the attention! They're curios and want you to notice them. I don't know how to make them quit though.

My cat does that too but I don't think she's being mean. She mainly just wants attention or she sees something that interests her. For example, when I'm printing something off the noice fascinates her and she has to jump up and check it out. My cat doesn't tend to knock things over though, she just likes to jump up and stand in front of the monitor so I can't see anything lol. Silly thing. Gotta love 'em anyway!

How I love to read all the kitty topics you open :) My kitten does the exact same thing, she runs over my desk top and everything in her way will end up on the floor. What ever happened to the fact cats should be able to run over a full table without knocking stuff over? I know they can for a fact and I know she can as well, but it's allmost like she does it to annoy me... ...lol. I once had a kitty that was mentally retarded and she did knock everything over on purpose, hit her head against glass windows when running because she couldn't see the difference between clear air and the window and so on. She had little dracula teeth and her mouth was crooked. I love that little thing, she was one of the most misshapen cats I ever had but she had a heart of gold. I miss her

So sorry, I didn't mean to get you or myself upset, this topic just reminded me of her and I'm thankfull that she had a fun and loving life even though it was short (4 years). She had everything her little heart could have desired and I'm sure that she is waiting for me at the other side of the rainbow :)

That poor baby! Now I'm going to cry. You know how much I love the kitten babies, even the ones that need fixing up!

I don't have a computer desk, I hae a lap, and here is no way my cat is going to stay of of my lap when I am using my laptop. In fact, he likes to push the computer right of of my lap, and make himself right at home. My solution is to canel he internet at home, and take my computer to the cat-free coffee shop when I want to use it.

I have gave up caring anymore because my cats wont listen to me , or to my fiance . They always are laying all around and making big messes on or by the computer . The most annoying is when they also knock the speakers over . i suppose they love it here because I have 3 huge windowds by the desks . Ah, I still love my annoying baby luvs

Good luck there. LOL I haven't learned that trick either. I'm always finding my speakers, mouse or CDs on the floor. Someone once told me to try coating the edges with double sided tape. They told me the cats wouldn't like the sticky feeling. I never tried it because I didn't think I would like it either! LOL

When we had cats there was nothing that I could do to keep them off my computer desk. Or off of me while I was working. they really liked to be right up against the monitor. Especially in the winter when it was warm and the air cold. I just put up with it or kicked the cat out when it got to mischievous. Maybe that is one reason why we no longer have cats (the other is that we got a dog who very much dislikes cats).

the best thing I have found is to place a couple of moth balls around the room and on the desk, cats nor dogs can stand the smell.

Well! we dont have any cats or pets in our house.... he he... So we dont have any troubles caused from pets.... I think if you dont allow your cat in your room... by closing your rooms door... that would solve the problem...^_^

She just wants to get your attention! Our Tia does that all the time and she walks over the keyboard and sits in front of the screen when my other half is using the pc! lol Luckily I always use the laptop and she doesn't go near that! lol xxx

i don't even bother trying anymore.but i did get a bigger desk,so the chance goes up they'll stay on the other side of the monitor.usually if they insist on getting in the way,i try to get them to sit on my lap instead, which is usually what they want anyway. it sounds like your kitten is playing the "pay attention to ME" game

sticky paws - to keep cats out! or off!
She's just being a mischievous kitten which is normal for all kittens. Actually she's curious and wants to know all about the world that she's living in. I have a couple of suggestions on how to keep her off your desk, one is to get one of those cans of sprays that clean your computer keyboard. Just spray that in the air and she'll be gone in a split second. The first time you do it, do it gently so you have her attention without giving her a heart attack then push that button hard and she'll be gone!! lol another one is a spray bottle with water. Cats hate water and it is a training methode that works like a charm!! And lastly is to go to a pet store and get the sticky paws and lay them on your desk and when she steps on them, they'll stick to her paws which she won't like it one bit and won't get on it again. They're actually used to keep them from scratching furniture and to not get into plants but they work elsewhere too. Good luck!
