Watching TV too much will have a bad effect on our brain. So why don't we use the time of watching TV to do more meaningful things, like reading. And we can benefit a lot from reading.

HI MizukiZHR, I agree with you...I don't enjoy TV and what is also wrong with me is that I spend too much time online..LOL! I used to love a lot and now I can't even read 1 book in a year! LOL! I just tend to enjoy myself surfing the net! ANyway, I know I have to get back in my old hobby and that is reading but I do know when to start!

How very true! I rarely watch television. I can count on one hand the hours I spend in front of the TV in a month (that's not counting DVDs, of course, since I do watch lectures on DVD). However, I don't spend quite as much time reading books as I should. As others have mentioned, being online takes up a lot of my time, which is something I'm trying to change. But you're right. Reading has a lot of benefits.

Nice suggestion. Im doing that. If it is the knowledge channel, National Geo, and discovery channel, its ok to watch tv. These are informative channels.

I consider we waste time if we watch TV,watching tv make us to lazy.We should spent time on reading books,we can think about the content of book and increase our knowledge. So reading book is better than watching TV

Yeah, you can say that again. Reading is instructive and thought-provoking. Watching TV sometimes is necessary and it should be limited at the same time. Watching too much those unrealistic plots is a waste of time.

Of course, you could always do both. Maybe it's just me, but I find I can fit both tv watching and book reading into an average day, without feeling I'm doing too much of one or not enough of the other. I also think tv gets a bad an unfair rap. If you watch an excess of bad tv, it might have a negative effect on you. But, tv isn't just what's bad. I love books, but are you really benefiting your mind if you read nothing but Harlequin Romances (or something similar)? Aside from just enjoying yourself, if that's your cup of tea. And, no one throws out the baby with the bath water when it comes to that.

I don't watch much TV. I do spend quite a bit of time online but I use it to find information, keep in touch with others, and make a bit of money. I try to read almost every day. I'm actually reading two books now.

come to think of it. i rarely watch tv nowadays. as soon as i get home, i open the computer and surf the net. when i'm ready to sleep, i open a good book and read before sleeping. i watch tv now only for news.

So worth it.I read a lot more.Only watch DVDs/videos.Have many more free time. It's amazing how much time is sucked up by sitcoms, decorating shows, music videos, reality shows... Somehow, you'll be able to maintain your knowledge of popular culture;I know story lines to shows I've never seen. It's inescapable!

I do a bit of both. I love to read, but there are also a handful of television shows that I can't bear to miss, so I watch TV a bit too. I've loved reading since I was a little kid and it's one of my favorite past times so I have a ton of books. I think more people should read, it is definitely a great source of fun and information!
