Last Week Of Freedom.

Well this is it, I am now officially in my last week of freedom. After Friday of this week I will lose it and I will not be able to pass go and will not be able to come and go as I want! Why? Cos the kids only go and break up for their hols on Friday, 6 weeks of having to consider them before I go anywhere, instead of it just being me and my daughter it will be me and three children! It will take me 2 hours to get out of the house of a morning to go shopping. I will be skint, even more than I am due to the extra sweets and treats I shall have to buy. 6 weeks of "I'm bored" "Mum tell him he's hurting me" 6 weeks of endless, mind numbing cartoons and whineing and moaning LOL But you know what I LOVE IT REALLY LOL!!!!! So anyone in the same position as me, kids breaking up this week? Have yours already broken up? How are you faring with it? What sorts of cheap entertainment ideas have you got lined up to keep them amused? All suggestions will be seriously taken on board to keep me sane!!!

my daughters been on break for a month now.. and its going by way too fast. she will start day camp in another two weeks, and as much fun as itll be for her.. the silence in the house again will drive me batty. we really dont have much problems finding stuff to do together to have fun with.. just finding enough time in the day to do them all.

When it used to just be me and my eldest I used to relish the holidays, and I still do dont get me wrong. It is just that when the eldest is about there is no fun, he takes it all away with his aggravating in fact he was the main reason I was dreading it so much. But, at the minute he is stopping at my Mums and he has been working nearly everyday so it is peaceful, for how long though I know not. xx

This is what I am hoping too, in the last couple of weeks I have hardly seen him. I do miss him, but I have to say that being able to relax in my own home is bliss, and then I feel guilty for feeling that way about him xx

having my own elder orc spawn.. i understand completely. and te peace didnt settle in until after shed moved out. hopefully now that yers is working he will gain SOME maturity and stop the behavior that has yer entire household in an upset. if not... you as well may not finally achieve peace within yer home until he gets one of his own.

LOL I feel for you Gemini sweety I really do - our kids broke up in the end of June and mine had an extra week too as our holidays were the last week of term! The best and cheapest entertainment idea I can give you is to do what I have done - farm the kids out for a week or two! lol Hugs xxxx

Hi Gemin_rose, I can so relate to this and I suppose about every parent here can too LOL. Mine don't break up unitl 22nd July so I have a bit of time yet. In fact I love not having to clock watch during the holidays and as I live so near to the beach I will walk down there most days which is free fun even on bad weather days so I am okay with the entertainment factor really. It also gives me chance to cathc up with friends who live a couple of towns away as their kids will be off too and they'll come over and we make a day of it. No major suggestions here really other than stock up on goodies, paint, bubbles relax as much as possible this week. Ellie :D

Ah ha ha!! How old are the little ones? I don't really get too much freedom, right now the squirt and the daddy are asleep and my son is watching a movie. My daughter has been out of preschool for the summer since June, and she still has ballet for right now, and swimming lessons start next week. I don't allow the word bored! When my son gets 'bored', then he gets chores. I take the little one to the gym with me when I go. I skipped today. I take my daughter swimming almost every day, I was mean and said no today because I didn't feel like going outside again after I got home from ballet. Sometimes we go to the park or an inside play area (our mall has one) when it's too hot. On Wed I'm planning to take her roller skating with some friends. Some other suggestions - a library for story time, ice cream, swimming or a sprinkler, etc.

Hiya mommyboo, my little ones are 16, 7,6 and 2. The big one does not count too much as he has left school and at the minute is working a lot thank goodness he is the worst at aggravating everyone else. When I was reading your response I thought it was my Mum talking to me as she never used to tolerate the word bored either and if I said it I was given chores to do LOL

WOW! You have the life I dreamed I would have when my kids were little. I've always had to work, so I could only squeeze stuff like that in here and there and when I did, I was usually so exhausted that I didn't fully enjoy it. My children are 24, 23, 20, 15, 13 & 8. We still have a good time together though. I think I do more refereeing now then I did when they were little. LOL

My kids have been out of school since June 23. On June 24 I was hoping summer would be over soon, lol. I wake up every morning and say "OMG, it's not September yet??" They start back the first week of Sept. Over 2 months vacation! Consider yourself lucky!!

I'd assume yours get more time off during the year. Mine get a week of vacation here and there throughout the school year, and 2 weeks around X Mas. They have to attend school I want to say about 180 days out of the year.

My boy has been out for the summer since the last Wednesday in June..... Since he has Autism he has regular in home therapy on Tuesdays and Thursdays so that continues to be the same as it was during the school year and for the days he does not have therapy (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) He ha Day Care as he must stay in a routine or he can't function so I must admit that I don't have the worries about summer that other parents have...Although I had to find a program for him and get him enrolled in a day care for this purpose ahead of time! I do suggest lots of crafts and trips to the park or a play ground of some kind and if there is a local public pool or beach nearby....Get the sprinkler out in the yard. Bake with the children...There is a few ideas! Good Luck! ~Heavens~

Well thanx for the suggestions, although the bake with the children is almost certainly out as we have had no summer yet, it is only reaching temps of about 59 degrees here at the minute, it is cold!!

Hi gemini, I have no kids and I can't relate but I can imagine..LOL! Yesterday, I was with a friend who got 2 daughters who will be gong back to school next month..She is taking them in the pool, bring them in the park and yesterday, we went in the mall to have them some inexpensive ride.. Maybe you can also get them something to discover their talents about art, painting, chess games and anything that they can do inside the house! LOL!

Mine were out June 6th! I had so many wonderful plans...sigh. We started out working on summer schoolwork books every morning, but they've had a few weeks off until next week, when we'll start up again. We go on "adventure" walks, which are walks around the neighborhood and town with the dog and I call them an "adventure" because otherwise the kids wouldn't go. We've went to the beach once, but my daughter got some type of infection in her eye and then something got into her eye other than the infection and it's caused an abrasion on her cornea. So now, no beach. Basically I've just been letting them play their video games and they've been drawing a lot lately. My husband told me the other day that any time one of them comes up to me whining or complaining or when they are fighting, I should make them clean. It works! One of them complains, I tell them "shouldn't you be picking up your room?" and poof! They disappear! Good luck to you and I hope you & your kids have a wonderful break!

Ouch 6 weeks, I just kind of passed go, lol, my eldest daughter just went back to school today after two week holidays. WE don't have the 6 week holidays till the end of the year in mid December. She also got bored alot, doesn't know what to do with herself. One week she went to her dads house, so I just had to entertain her for half the holidays. We went roller skating that was pretty cheap, another day she went to the zoo with friends and the rest of the holidays she spent with friends and at home watching movies and being bored, lol. I hope you find some time to relax over these 6 weeks, it is going to be one long break for ya. Just escape to mylot when it gets too noisy and zone out. Suggestions - you could buy them a new board game, that they can play on the holidays. They could make scrap booking pages from photos. Get them to clean up the house, that would be great huh! Tell them to go out and ride their bikes, scooters, play handball, cricket, tennis. Hope some of these ideas help, I find inviting a friend around is good, even though it means an extra person, they are entertained and not whining at you.

Thanks for those suggestions, the board games are a good idea as I have a shop that I can get them cheap at. The sports games are out as mine are just not into sports at all LOL lazy lot they are. Mind you, I hate sports too. They have a friend that often visits his Grandma in the hols so hopefully he will pay a visit or ten, because it is about the only time they will go out and play when he comes. How strange your holidays are, I have never heard of them being in December before, but then again that is your summer isn't it?

I have no panacea for this problem Rose,my heart goes out to you!!I used to dread summer holidays,I worked part time then and it was always a scrabble to fit everything in!!The kids used to come and meet me from work..things were a little bit different in those days !!and they used to do the housework in the morning so that the afternoons could be free for us all to do something together. But the do somethings always seemed to involve hard cash!!and im afraid when that ran out we used to have to take walks, and take a sandwich and a bottle of pop.But al l the entertainment now is so costly..the cinema, the ice rinks, the play centres..you name it and it inv olves money!!So yes Rose I feel for you...and I hope that the six weeks will pass fairly quickly for you..

They already told me they want to go to about 3 theme parks, the zoo etc etc! We had to explain to them that things may be a bit tough for the next few weeks as where my hubby works is making a lot of redundancies, ho hum happy days ah!!!
