I have been trying to uninstall norton antivirus on my pc for a long time now and I still can't remove it. I tried going to thier site and download thier removal tool but still I can't able to uninstall it. I also tried going to add/remove progrmas and I still failed. I also tried to delete all the files of noton on my pc but there are still some left. Do you have any ideas how will I be able to remove norton? I don't want to format my pc cause I have tons of important files that I really needed there and I want to install a new antivirus since I am not satisfied with the service of norton but I can't able to do that if norton is still around so please someone help me! Thanks in advance!

When you figure it out, please let me know. You need antivirus software to remove your antivirus software. They put some kind of hidden code that cant be erased on your computer. Which wont allow us to erase the darn thing although it looks like its being deleted. Good luck with this one!

if you still feel slow, try to install new OS system :). i almost do that if my computer start running slow. Norton is not recommended, Try NOD32.

I think what is left there is the norton auto updater or something which when uninstalled will tell you that not all components of Norton are removed yet. Maybe you are using other Norton application that need updates not just the antivirus. If you are really sure that no norton application is left but that single one then try to boot in safe mode and do the folder delete there. In normal mode do a registry fix using CCleaner to remove all registry entries pointing to that deleted files. Try also to check your autorun for that point to that deleted folder.

Its not the updater but the entire norton antivirus itself. I have done what you said but I still failed on it. Anyway, thanks for trying to help.

you just need to install an software such as"wopti"which can gather the information automatically about the programs you installed in your pc.this kind of software can also include some useful functions, intelligent uninstall function is one of them. maybe this kind of third party softwere can do you the favor.

I think, you have to format your hard disc and re-install the windows, if the normal un-install is not functioning. You should need the help of a computer technician.

Thanks but I still want to try it on my own!

Apparently you need to use the installation CD to uninstall - there's usually an option on the disc that says Uninstall or something along those lines. That's why I don't use Norton, it's a pain to uninstall!

i am not an expert in computers .but if you want to install another antivirus programme the you can go ahead and download it or install it on your pc as soon as the new program gets installed it will override your norton product and get installed on your pc .as two antivirus programmes cannot simultaneously run on a pc
