Do you wax or shave?

This question is applicable to everyone actually. I asked this because I've just recently started waxing my legs... One of my friends here at work is an expert waxer. (LOL. ) and surprisingly it didn't hurt. Really. I was expecting excruciating pain like the ones I see on tv. I was expecting blood and swollen skin... and there wasn't. So for those who've tried waxing, how was it? For those who shave, would you try having, let's say, your legs, arms or mustache waxed?

Hi Rose, When my sister-in-law cuts my hair, she usually waxes my eyebrows and mustache. I'd really like her to do my legs. I hate shaving with a passion. How long does the waxing last on your legs? I would even like to do it myself but I don't know how much of an investment it would be. I guess I have to find out. leenie

Hi Leenie It's been three weeks now and so far, so good. Although some of the hair has grown back already. At least it's not like the whole thing plus it grew back finer. Have you been shaving your legs? If you have, it'll probably sting in some areas. My friend explained to me that it's not good to shave legs because it would do something to the hair pores. Forgot what she said. It would be a little hard to wax it off yourself because you have to make sure that you're pulling it off in the right direction. She said that you have to apply the wax and pull it in the opposite direction. She uses cold wax to do mine. I'm not sure how much a tub of wax would cost there. Here, I bought it at around eight dollars for one tub. That would make like several applications.

Yup.. that's the best thing to do... and make sure it grows long enough for the wax to stick properly... goodluck!

Rose It would probably be better to let my sister-in-law do it. I think the trick is to let it grow for about a week or so, if I can stand it. I just have to find atime when she is not too busy. Thanks for the info and encouragement. leenie

i haven't tried waxing. i've thought about it though. i'm not so much worried about the pain as i am the marks from it. does it leave read marks where your hair was? i figured after being violently ripped out that there would be red marks there since my skin is dry. i may give it a try someday though, i'm tired of shaving lol.

No, there wont be any marks. I am sure you will fall in love with waxing after trying. As I know, if you are shaving, you need to shave quite often. But, for waxing, it can last for months. In my case, it lasted for 2-3 months before the hair growing out. I think wax is more worth it! :)

No red marks for me. I guess it would leave red marks if it was done improperly.. I just hope that if you do try, it'd be with someone who really knows how to do it.

I have never waxed. I have used the hair remover cream though. I didn't like it at all. It didn't work very good and it burnt me. I usually just shave now. It takes longer and you have to do it more often, but I like it better. Can you buy the stuff to wax your legs, from a regular store like Walmart or do you have to have a professional do it?

I just go and buy a tub of wax and ask my friend who's an expert at it to do the waxing for me. What's great about is I don't have to pay a single thing. Hehe.

I would love to try waxing my legs. My sister-in-law is a hair dresser and she waxes my eyebrows and upper lip. She just started doing that and it sure bears plucking. I think I'll ask her about the legs. I wouldn't mind doing it myself after she shows me how. I hate shaving.

Do try it with the legs... It'll sting a little in certain areas especially if you've been shaving it... the hair root would be pretty thick but if you've never done anything to your legs, it would just feel like putting scotch tape and removing it.

That has always been my impression. Especially with the movies that I've seen showing people in excruciating pain after being waxed. Lol. But if done properly, there's very minimal if not no pain at all.

I shave, I'm afraid of waxing because of the pain it might cause especially if you are not sure of what you're doing... I am the type of person that cannot tolerate physical pain... So just thinking about it gets me scared lolz... But I might try it someday once I gather enough courage.. lolz so yeah most of th time I just shave... hehe.. :)

Yup. very true. That's why I let my first be done by my friend who I know has been doing it for the longest time. I thought it'd hurt really bad but to my surprise, it didn't. Haha. I was even texting while she was waxing my leg. The people around me were like wincing and groaning but I was really non chalant about it. Haha. It was cool actually. Just make sure it's done by someone who's really good at it.

I tried waxing once and It was just way too painful for me so I'm a shaver. The only part of my body that I like getting waxed is my eyebrows at the salon because it really makes them look perfect and gets all the little hard to pluck hairs. I think if I had someone else wax for me I would be able to handle it but trying to do it myself is too difficult. I also got wax EVERYWHERE when I tried it because I bought this really sticky kind. It would have been a comedy to watch me. I think being able to wax also depends on the sensetivity of your skin.

Haha... I can imagine if I tried doing it by myself. Oh dear. Yup. it depends on the sensitivity of your skin plus the type of wax you use and lastly the person doing the waxing. Lol. Good thing my first experience wasn't traumatizing. The one who did it for me is an expert at it.

Yes. I have went for arms, mustache and back waxing before! For mustache waxing, since it is not involving a big area, there is not much pain. However, part of my arm bleed, maybe it is due the soft skin but it does not cause much problem. Just apply some body talcum on it to cool it, then the next day, it is ok. However, I have never waxed my legs. I love the feeling after waxing, as the skin looks fairer and smoother.

true. true. Especially if you have a lot of hair, you'll end up having really fair skin. Lol.

I don't do either at the moment! I always let my hair grow freely in winter. haha. And luckily my husband doesn't mind at all. He thinks it's natural. In summer i sometimes use an epilator if i feel brave, otherwise i just shave. I did go and get waxed once, but i had a bad reaction and my legs, bikini line, armpits and face all swelled up, it was terrible!
