I have a 14 month old son and he has plenty of toys but he prefers to play with things that aren't really meant for playing with at all. Today he wanted to swing my lounge door about. I had to close it for he might trap his fingers. He likes the handles on my chest of drawers and enjoys tapping these. He loves to run his fingers over my patio door. He adores playing with plastic coat hangers. He loves playing with the box more than the toy that has come out of it. Do your children ever play with things that are not toys? I so, what do they enjoy playing with? Have they ever done anything with a cardboard box? Thanks.

My children and grandchildren have always had plenty of toys but their favourite things have been cardboard boxes, which were cars, boats, trains, and all sorts of other things. They also loved saucepans, saucepan lids and wooden spoons. any child with imagination can have great fun with the simplest things.

It sounds like your children had and now your grandchildren have great fun with cardboard boxes. It is wonderful that they were/are delighted with such simple things. I should let my little boy in my kitchen for I think he would love to play with saucepans and their lids.

I'm a mother of 4 kids and my youngest is a 3 year old boy who is so playful and naughty. Yes, 1 to age 3 is the most critical and playful stage of a child, it is regulated when they started going to pre school. I observed that with my other older children. My son plays with our pillows throwing and jumping on it, he plays with the light's switch turning it on and off and he love to play with water! gosh, I always caught him wasting water on our sink and bathroom soaking his toys on it. he plays with our media player and broke it afterwards.. I guess, i lose count on how many things in this house has been destroyed while im growing this 4 children lol! but it's normal as I see it happening to my brother's kids, my friends and other families. Maybe this is one of the ordeal that we parents must undergo in raising our kids and oh well, when they grow older and starting to have boyfriends and girlfriends, go home late and bringing trouble home is another story lol! I guess when they left us to rear their own family, then we will miss these stages that we're always there to run after them. But my dad said, just wait til you have your own grandchildrens. They are little rascals!! Cheers! happy posting:)

Your little 3 year old boy sounds like he loves exploring hey. I think that water can be such fun when a parent can see what their child is up to. However catching them soaking their toys is a bit of a shock. It is a shame that your little one broke your media player. He certainly sound like a hands on discover to me. I really like your description of the children growing up. Thanks and happy posting.
