Hard Long Night, Long Hard Day

I am so relieved to be sat here talking to you lot in peace, my children are all in bed and this is now heaven. Last night was a hard and long night that led into a long and hard day. I went to bed at 11 pm last night, tired and ready for a good nights sleep, just got into bed found a comfy spot and starting to doze when my 2 year old daughter shouted "Mummyyyyy" in a woeful voice. And for all parents, you know when you are just going to have a bad night don't you? The tone in their voice tells you "dont get too comfy Mum cos I am not going to let you sleep tonight" and she did not. I ended up with one hours sleep last night, one hour, and could I figure out what was wrong with her? I gave her a bottle, I changed her bum, I put vicks on her back because she still has a cough and the rubbish was on her chest, I put cream on her itchies because her excema was playing up, I cuddled her, I read to her, I told her off firmly, I gave her calpol. Nope nothing worked. I had to take the boys to school in the morning and I knew if I went to sleep so late in the morning (5am by this time) I would not wake up so I stayed up. I got her up at 7am this morning as she had gone to sleep at 6am, she was burning up, no temp all night but now she was sizzling, she cried that her ear hurt, she threw up and it was all rubbish off her chest and I thought "I have to get her to the doctors". I had my two boys to get too school so I got them ready and managed to find someone to take them to school for me and I took my daughter the docs. I had to push her in her pushchair as she was so weak, it killed me she has not been in her pushchair for months and she was heavy!! She saw the doc and has a nasty ear infection in both ears caused by the rubbish of her cough sitting on her chest for the last few days. Damn this damp UK weather. I was given antibiotics for her which I collected and gave her a spoonful, she did not like the taste and promptly projected it all over me! So it has been a long hard day LOL When was the last long hard day you had? Why was it so bad?

I feel for you and have had many a sleepless night with my second daughter ,she suffered from asthma and we almost lost her twice. There were days and nights I could do little but sit and hold her in my arms until we got through it,Thankfully she has outgrown it now and is in her thirty's

Asthma is a terrible thing, my son has bronchial asthma, he suffers 2 - 3 times a year with it really bad and I hate it. I am hoping my boy grows out of it too.

I had a few of them with my Daughter to when she was little and I know it is very frustrating when you do not know what is wrong with them The last one I had was Thursday Night but I am getting used to them by now lol When my Lungs start there is no chance sleeping but at least I can lie down again in the afternoon and I know that is not possible with a little one specially if she is that sick I do hope she is better by now Big Hugs to her and to you xxxx

The weather is not helping you because my kids are suffering a lot with their chests and normally in summer it is the best time for them.xx

I can't say I ever remember having a day or a night as bad as that. Somehow my son managed to sleep at night when he was sick and the few times he didn't, we put him in the car, drove for 15 minutes and then back home and he was sleeping. You poor thing. I feel for you!

It was hard because she had not done it for such a long time, it was also hard because she would not tell me exactly what was wrong so it was like she was just doing it for no reason. But she was in pain with her ears, and I could not work it out until the next morning, poor little thing must have been in agony. Any way the good thing is she is getting better now, she has antibiotics and they are starting to work!

Awww poor Mummy! I know that scenario only too well sweetheart! It's awful when they can't tell you what is wrong as they don't really know and they just want you with them all the time, poor little scones and poor mummy! My daughter has had 2 ear infections this year and I know she was in a lot of pain. Have you tried using an oral syringe for her medicine? Thjey can still spit it back out but if you get it near the top of the throat they donlt have to taaste it the same - that usually works with niamh. The last long hard night was probably last night and not cos of the kids for once but there was a lot of noise coming from a party the girl across the road was having and they were all arguing and then running out of the house shouting etc, normally I would have asked her to be quieter and have a bit of consideration but I just didn't have the energy last night! I do hope she is feeling better now and that you have had a great sleep! xxx

She is a lot better now thank you, her ears have been leaking a lot but that seems to be clearing up now. She is now taking the antibiotics without gagging too so that is good! I think ear infections are the worst thing to have, I only had one once and it was the worst pain I have ever had.

Its hard work when the kids are small,I remember it oly too well!the endless nights of being woken up time after time, and then lol when it was about six o clock there were little voices saying Mummy is it time to get up yet?!but no matter what they did they were always a real joy,and a lot of people may say that sounds a bit sentimental but im sure that you feel the same way about yours!Just watching them progess ,from strength to strength, watching the acheivements, the ups and sharing the down times. They are so precious those times, and you have to get hem as `right` as you possibly can, because you only have them once.So enjoy yuor well deserved rest ..put those feet up,and just enjoy all there is to enjoy about being a MuM...

Thanx ruby, they are a joy. She was so brave, she must have been in pain but for all she kept me up she never actually really said it was her ears.

The nurse was surprised at how happy she was with how bad her ears were, it is in both ears. Her ear has been leaking through the night as well. I am glad to hear that your shingles are finally getting better, I was concerned at how long you had them for xx
