Nope, completely untrue. Squaresoft have always been part of a larger company. Even back when the first FF was released in 1987, they were on a sound financial footing. The 'Final' bit of 'Final Fantasy' is because it was released as a direct competitor to Enix's Dragon Warrior, and thus implied to be the 'final word' in Fantasy CRPGs.

Well, damn. Having just read up on this a little more, you're absolutely right, and I was wrong. Check the wikipedia entry at http://tinyurl.com/9ohcg , particularly the development section. :)

Wow, thanks for this information. I have been a FF fan for so long and I haven't really research and got this information. It was a good read really that this game was supposed to be the last but hey what do we have now.. XIII games more and counting?

Yep... i read something on the blog that before square will going to disbanded, they make this game but then it just came popular and sold out millions of copies worldwide.. and now, square is focusing on the FF editions.. BTW, FFXIII will come out near december or february... depends on your countries

lol, I never heard about that before, but it seems like even once they made final fantasy 10 people said that was going to be their last game they'll make but instead they continue production of FF11 and 12 and now 13, There maybe a deeper meaning to the name of the game if you study it more.
