How can I raise money to help a foster kitten get his fractured leg fixed?

Hi, I am a "cat lover". I rescued a kitten who had been accidentally backed over by a car. He has a fractured femur and a 3-part pelvis fracture. I have posted on LA Trappers (a cat group) asking for small donations. I can't seem to make fast cash on PTC sites. I don't make enough money to live on besides the extra this surgery will cost. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make quick cash or get small donations paid directly to the vet? Thanks for any responses. CD

You might ask the vet and any pet stores in the area if you can put out a "cup" or jar to ask for donations. I'm sure your vet would be willing and, after all, the people there are for sure pet lovers. If you do it at a pet store, be sure that they put it up at night, or you collect it daily.

Hi Elic, thank you for the suggestion. It is a good idea. So far I have raised $110.00 from donations from friends. This is a good start. However, I have already spent about $400.00 of my own money. A friend of mine is making a poster/flyer and I will put up the poster/flyer at local pet stores and vet offices. I appreciate your respond to my post.

Good luck on raising the money and on his healing! I just hate that bad things happen to pets. A person we know pet got out and was injured so badly she had to have him put to sleep. She's asked if she can have one of ours, the only one we'd let her have is one good with children and no interest in going out, and she's not to let her out either.

Poor kitty!! Great ideas so far!! I don't know if this would work (or how much time you would have for this) but someone online posted about a website with pretty pics of a bunny & one day the owner put up a Paypal donations sign & asked people to donate money so the bunny wouldn't get eaten!! & people donated!! /must be the craziest idea online ever!! but for this person, it worked!!/ Another idea. Someone on a forum said she was able to get experimental treatment for her doggie (for cancer) either very cheap or for free.. There was a special vet clinic to go to, I think.. Not sure if this would apply in your case, but maybe just a thing to consider, or use for further brainstorming.. You might also get any journalists involved & therby get greater publicity & ask people to donate.. You could post a video on YouTube so people could see this is a real kitty not a made up scam (?) /though it might also encourage people to run over kitties on purpose, hm!!/ But I did see a picture of a saved doggie that almost had half a head missing (I think the jaw part) all over the news... Could you make this into an 'issue'? (The doggie above was about 'how can people be so cruel to animals?!!') Maybe you could make it as a warning point to all drivers, to make sure all kitties are safely out of site? Is there a car accessory that could help prevent that? Could you team up with a guy making or marketing it? (maybe I'm thinking 'science fiction'...:)) A lot of times cats sleep on or under cars, cause they're attracted to the warmth.. We lost one of Uncle's cats that way too... Are there any tips how to avoid such things? This could maybe help to make a 'story' that would be interesting enough for the rpess to help you raise money, & raise consciousness of people at the same time? I'm talking radio shows (by phone/skype or 'in person'), local TV, newspaper...(?) Is there a blogger community that could be interested in this & help you raise money? Also, ask for 'small (or big) donations' - whatever one can afford.. If you just ask for small donations that may be what you get, if you ask for 'what you can contribute' (& state how much this will cost, & exactly why you can't pay for it - ie are you an invalid, or have 3 daughters, or have a low-paying job - it would help to state what kind..) ...people might contribute more (?) Just a few ideas... :) I do hope your cat makes it allright!!!!

Hi Lady Strawberry, what a thoughtful post. Thank you. Davinci will make it. I have met a wonderful caring person who is helping with his care. I am committed to raising money to pay off his vet bills. He definitely will make it. If things do turn bad, he will lose his leg but we are hoping this does not happen. He is under excellent medical care, which costs money, but hopefully if a lot of people give just a little it will make a big difference. Thanks again for your very good suggestions.

There are a lot of Yahoo pet rescue type groups...I belong to some myself...join up with a good number of them and pose the question to them...they might have some answers there for you...some might be willing to donate money to you--never know if you don't give it a shot Here's a general listing of Yahoo groups http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=Pet+rescue This listing is specifically groups in Calif http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=California+pet+rescue

Hello my friend, thank you for your suggestions. I have to get my Pet Press Newsletter out and start calling some of the rescue groups. Money is tight everywhere and that is why I am just asking for a small donation from anyone who wants to contribute. The money will be mailed directly to the vet and will not come to mine or any others pocket. If anyone here wants to donate I will privately email them the doctor's name and address. I will be in touch with some of the rescue groups also. Thanks again for your post.

Thank you. Also a great idea. I am not sure if there is a limit to how much you can post on myLot in one day. I have to read the TOS. I guess the longer you post the more money you make. So far I have made about $2.00. I am sure it will start adding up pretty soon. This is a great place to make some extra money. Thanks again.

Poor lil kitty! 1. You could try having a yard sale. Have friends and family donate things and help out. 2. Call your local Walmart and see if you can have a Bake sale. Lots of Walmarts will Match whatever you make. So you make Double. 3. Contact several local Charites and Animal Loving Organizations in your area, and ask for a cash donation that could be paid directly to the Vet. 4. Ask the Vet that will do the surgery if he/she will lower his/her fee to do the Surgery. 5. Ask the Vet if they will take payments so it does not hit you all at once. I hope some or all these ideas help!

Thank you, also great suggestions. I do want to have a yard sale for a 2-fold benefit, one to get rid of a lot of stuff I do not need and the other for DaVinci's medical bills. Right now he is in a great foster home and is getting really good medical care. He may have surgery on his leg tomorrow. I have raised $110.00 already. The surgery will cost over $1,000. I have also spent about $400.00 of my own money. Thanks again for the ideas.
