National Vanilla Ice Cream Day - July 23rd

United States

A perfect ending to National Hot Dog Day (see my previous post - LOL). National Vanilla Ice Cream Day celebrates one of Americas favorite ice cream flavors. Vanilla and chocolate ice cream vies for the taste buds ice cream lovers. Chocolate may win the popularity contest. But, vanilla is a close second. It is also more refreshing, and more versatile. Its easy to celebrate Vanilla Ice Cream Day on a hot summer day like today. Enjoy it in a cone, a dish, a float, a shake, or in a cake. If you get it in a cone today, ask for extra scoops, and worry about the calories later. Just make sure to eat it quickly, before it melts. If you go out for ice cream today, watch for discounts and special promotions on vanilla ice cream! How do you like to eat your vanilla ice cream? I made brownies the other night and we put cut up brownies in the bottom of the bowl, vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. There were walnuts in the brownies, so this was the ultimate YUMMY dessert!!!

You are just a walking fount (sp?) of knowledge about National Days, aren't you, kimbers867? LOL. Well, who doesn't like ice cream, let's all celebrate! I've already got the ingredients for making vanilla ice cream in my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for guests that will be arriving very late tonight or tomorrow. So, I guess my timing is good. Hey, my husband's taking me out to dinner tonight since I'll be cooking alot the next few days. Maybe I can encourage him to go for ice cream afterwards. After all, this sounds like cause for celebration. Happy National Vanilla Ice Cream Day!

LOL PearlGrace! I like reading about the different holidays, then I started adding it to my daily blog, then here! I know Bob has liked it, especially the good days! LOL I acquired an older model ice cream maker last summer, but haven't tried it out yet. I don't know what I am waiting for. Maybe I will see what I need to make my own vanilla ice cream, won't everyone be surprised. LOL Oh, where are you going for dinner? Enjoy your company. I'm off to find a good ice cream recipe.

I did not know that today is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day. How interesting. I love to add candy to my icecream. It gives it so many different flavors this way. I love to add candy bars such as butterfinger. This is so very yummy.

Welcome to myLot! Yes, candy is good in ice cream. McDonald's use to have a Butterfinger McFlurry that was so good. I think Friendly's does it as a blizzard. My favorite candy in ice cream is reese peanut butter cups or pieces!!! We have some leftover peanut butter candy from Easter that I have been adding to my ice cream! Yummy!!!

I really like the $1 cones from McD's because it is just right for a really, really hot day and you have time to eat it before it melts.

The McDs in my area used to offer dipped cones for like $1.39 or something like that and they were yummy. Much better (in my opinion) than Dairy Queen dipped cones. They don't do it anymore, and I don't need it anyway, but they were sooooo good!

That's so cute! I never knew that today is national vanilla ice cream day. I love French vanilla. It's the safest flavor of ice cream anywhere. I don't know how chocolate is the most popular flavor. I like chocolate but not as an ice cream flavor. I'd rather have chunks of chocolate on vanilla ice cream instead. I wish the government would give out free vanilla cones today in celebration of vanilla ice cream day. :)

I love French Vanilla also! What do you mean the safest flavor of ice cream? I have never heard of unsafe ice cream. I am very curious. I'm with you, I would rather drizzle chocolate or throw in an hershey bar to give it that chocolate flavor. Thanks for the response.

I had some vanilla ice cream last night with some italian ice. It was so good! I was good, I got the no-fat version of ice cream and you couldn't tell! We ran out of ice cream, so I might need to run down to the store to get some! Thanks for the response.

I like the brownie sundae too. I also like vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit, or oreos. Dairy Queen used to make a banana pudding blizzard that was a very nice use of vanilla ice cream too... but then, I like banana pudding, so putting vanilla ice cream (instead of vanilla pudding) with bananas and nilla wafers was a winning combo to me! It's so funny to read this today because on 7/23 I ended up with my son in a place that's known for its homemade peach ice cream, so that it what I had yesterday. My little boy insisted on his regular vanilla, though, so he was actually in keeping with the holiday. His preferred way to eat it is not something I recommend... gummy bears on top! :)

I don't like vanilla ice cream. Once in awhile I will get a twist on a cone but you really can't taste much of the vanilla you taste the chocolate more. My husband loves vanilla he likes vanilla shakes the best.

Is vanilla to blah for you, or have no taste? Do you like French Vanilla? Thanks for the response.

Dangit, I forgot National Ice Cream Day was coming up!! I already had my quota for the week yesterday. Last year, my sister celebrated during the whole month of July. I pretty much did, too, and I think I gained about 5 pounds!! I love ice cream. My favorites are: vanilla, coffee, rum raisin, sticky toffee pudding, cherry Garcia, peanut butter panic, bailey's irish creme, and DQ vanilla soft serve. For the last 3 weeks, I have been getting one single-serving container of the Ben & Jerry's or Haagen Dasz once a week instead of a pint every 2 or 3 days. It helps me "savor the flavor". There was one winter several years ago that I made Snow Ice Cream. I scooped up fresh fallen snow, added some sugar and vanilla and yummmmmm....the best homemade ice cream I ever had.

We have been celebrating all month, also. Last week the library had an Ice Cream Social. It was a lot of fun. Pineapple/Coconut from Haagen Dasz is my new favorite!!! I love snow ice cream. One of our local newscasters has it posted on their site, every winter. I think she hads cream to it also. This past year we didn't have any snow so we couldn't try it.

As a matter of fact, vanilla ice cream has always been one of my favorite flavors. When I was a child I preferred a vanilla ice cream cone with jimmies on it. I also prefer walnuts and caramel flavoring. I don't really eat chocolate ice cream too much. I did not realize it was a national holiday. But it is good that ice cream has a holiday named for it.

July is National Ice Cream month, so there are lots of special ice cream days this month. One day last week was Peach Ice Cream day! I love peach ice cream too!!! My grandmother use to make the best. You gotta have jimmies on it. Not many people call them jimmies anymore, everyone calls them sprinkles. Carmel is good!!! I love Friendly's peanut butter sauce, also. Thanks for the response.

I had a feeling that they weren't called jimmies too much anymore. Of course, it was about seven years old at the time I first liked them and that was in 1975. Thanks for commenting. Have a great day.

Vanilla is my favorite kind of icecream and has been my entire life. I absolutely hate the taste of chocolate ice cream (although I like regular chocolate. Although it is popular, it is not popular in my book. My favorite way to eat ice cream is in a Rootbeer Float or mixed with a warm crushed chocolate chip cookie. Even if I do not have rootbeer or a cookie handy, Vanilla icecream is still delicious on its own.
