It is not even a "GOOD START"

Yes, it is true. John (Grandpa Simpson) McCain wants to help solve the energy crises in the USA by building more nuclear power plants. That's fine, but John (Grandpa Simpson) McCain is only proposing building 45 such power plants by 2030. This is not even a good start. Read about it here. http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Energy+plan%3A+McCain+would+open+45+nuclear+reactors+across+country&articleId=3cbeaafc-d7e2-4b68-aefb-1f84c61369f4 Why not design a modular assembly nuke plant that can be mass produced? Why not build 1000 nuke plants? The modern designs are safe. The Chinese are engineering a modular assembly nuke plant so as to be able to build them quickly right now. Is the USA going to let the Chinese become the world technological leader in this immensely beneficial field of human endeavor? What do you have to say about all this?

I think we should seriously look at nuclear energy. While I have no real qualms about the safety issues, as I consider them pretty safe and dependable ... if the construction specifications are followed EXACTLY, and the builders don't try to cut corners. My main concern is disposing of the spent fuel. I saw an article about some sort of Fast Reactor that would use nearly all if not all of that, and if this is the case then I think it would be a good idea.

Following safety specifications is not an issue. Just specify the contractor has to live near the reactor for the rest of his life after construction is finished.

More the better why limit ourselves. We need new electricity production, just like we need new oil production. If we ever want to start using electric cars a lot of new electricity plain and simple. 2030 is a long ways off and what would happen if the president take took office after McCain canceled the building of these nuclear plants? What would happen if only a couple of these new plant went online? Modular assembled nuclear plants would be a remarkable new idea. A modular built plant could assembled in an expeditious quick compared to a normally built nuclear plant. Apparently some think America cannot do anything safely. These American for only foreign countries can be expected to handle new technology. The same response is give when the idea is to drill. Sure China can drill of the coast of Cuba no problem, but if we drill of the coast of Floridia no go. France gets its power from nuclear at the rate of 80%, but we only get our power from nuclear from nuclear at the rate of 20%. I am assuming that such Americans that are against us building new plants think France is smarter and safer. Let us all remember this the Soviet Union could not build a car so why do we wonder why they could not build a safe nuclear plant.

The thing about the modular nuke plant I wish people would hammer home in their minds is that the Chinese are doing it now. They are designing the first one now. The world does not wait for the USA to lead. If we want to lead, we have to get are brains in gear and go to work. Otherwise, the world will rightfully leave us behind. Nuclear power, properly engineered, is a boon to mankind. We are not taking full advantage of one of the gifts God has given us. That gift is nuclear power.
