What in the world could possibly replace water, they say its a precious resource and that the supply is short but will there be anything to fill in for tons of people needing water? Are we going to recieve some labratory made replacement like in the sci-fi thrillers or do you think were just going to be out of luck?? Sometimes I'll wonder when Im at the sink drinking my water if Im already drinking some fill in water, hey, sometimes my water taste awkwardly thicker than my bottled water, lol. Tell me your thoughts, speculation you've read in a magazine (Time?).... If you think about it, look at our over-processed food, I do not think of half the stuff lying in boxes on the shelf in my grocery store is food and this food is 'enriched' with synthetic vitamins, not mother natures own, so thats something to ponder--we are a chemical laden society.

This is an absolutely fabulous discussion!! Are you a SF writer? :) I could see this being explored in a number of SF short stories or novels!! :) Well, I think we'll have to learn to protect our waters better. Where I live, in Slovenia, water quality has already improved with municipal water cleaning devices.. but this system isn't perfect either, as it leaves a lot of mud & that has to be burnt in an incinerator (as our 'smart' officials said) & that in turn again pollutes air, soil & water.. Some regulations are stricter now that we are in the EU, while some became looser.. I think consumers must become more active & buy stuff that is friendlier for our environment - make less waste & use more nature-friendly & health-friendly products!! With stricter regulations & law enforcement, there will be less pollution & cleaner water!! :)

I see this is a good year in that regard (at least locally, and if McCain isnt elected). One of our local candidates for governor is growing more and more popular and he is all about wind power (which I think Bluewater did sign with our state), implementing environmental measures that are very practical and my main goal is to up recycling in our state because I was really inspired by my visit to Toronto, Canads. I have been walking around wondering why it is so hard to do these simple things and after visiting Toronto I realized it wasnt and its just a matter of convenience! I really like science fiction but probably watched more on tv than actually read--the X Files was my absolute favorite show. Im reading The Midnighters now by Scott Westerfeld. I really worry about the water though because the smell of chlorine (it smells like bleach to me) when running the bath water is SO STRONG and Im wondering to myself, my god, this cant be healthy. Then theres days Im drinking form the tap (I do use a Brita Filter) but it taste so thick, like you said, muddy. Your right be must become more proactive, me I recycle everything and return all my food scraps to the ivy patches, right now were working on switching my diesel to vegetable oil once we learn how to do it and my boyfriend was not even into that stuff until he saw me constantly doing small things and now he voluntarily recycles without me telling him and he was the one that bought me the diesel car. I know I may be annoying to people but I always remind them if something can be recycled, like at the gym, we have recycling bins everywhere so you can imagine my frustration when going into the bathroom theres five bottles stuffed into the regular trash and putting in their proper place. I try to just keep it to the small things to not get bogged down with despair.

It's great you're doing so much!! Absolutely awesome!! I bug everyone around here to recycle etc too!! lol (Okay, so far in my family, mostly! I did make 'em even was fish tins & recycle!:)) We're still not sure if the recyclables are really recycled here, but I hope they are.. If not, at least 'people response' can be measured as 'positive'...

Water is such a natural resource that i dont think it can ever be repalced by anything that is man made. And you are so right. We are a chemical Laden society. Everything now is being made Instant or can be done in 5 or 10 minutes time. I mean i can see food, but as far as water having a supplement i can't even begin to imagine that. If man does somehow manage to create such a thing, i really believe that the water will have a unlikely taste to it.
