Can cats be overdue like humans?

My poor cat has been nesting for weeks. She has found her spot in the basket in the closet to have her babies. She sleep in there and is in there all the time. She is so fat she can hardly walk anymore. Some one told me cats are only pregnat for 8 weeks. I thought the kittens would be here last week. Was I told wrong? If I am right she is about 10 weeks now. Do cats get overdue? She is one miserable mama.

Poor baby! I feel so sorry for her. I have spayed my cat, so she will not become a Mama. In spite of that, she looks and behaves like one. I am sorry I can't help you here, honey. Why not call the vet and ask him? He would really know. Maybe he will give you tips on how to help her out. I hope the sweet little kitties come soon.

yes yes, cats can be early OR late just like humans!!! I am sure she is fine as everything in the first response was already explained. One time my friend's cat had 6 kittens and she gave birth behind the toilet! Cats can pick some really goofy places to have their babies.

I could not say but am responding as I recall having a female that was pregnant and she gave birth after 9 and a half weeks. So I am curious as well. This was many years ago that I had this cat. She had 4 kittens and we found homes for them all too.

I called the vet this morning and they said she can go over due by two weeks anymore then that I have to bring her in. So she is fine. They did say if she is in labor to long to bring her in because a kitten could block the birthing canal. All is well with her. Still no new kittens!

i dont know and i usually know a lot about cats. i never had one do that. i know its hard for money to go to a vet, but maybe you can call one and ask. this sounds scarey.
