Kids do the darnedest things!

A few months ago, my fiancé told me something he heard on the radio, which was one of the funniest things I’d ever heard too! Please feel free to share your thoughts. A little boy about three or four years old was at his grandma’s house. Somehow he got a hold of her car keys. Her car was parked in the driveway, so he got in and started the engine without anyone noticing. The little boy ended up backing the car down the driveway until he backed it into a box that left the whole neighborhood without power for a little while. It was obviously to a point that his grandma finally realized what had happened. It was so cute and funny that the little boy had actually been able to do all of that. I don’t think he got into too much trouble. When his grandma asked him why he did that, he said he was hungry and was driving to Applebee’s for breakfast! Isn’t that cute? It’s a great commercial for the restaurant, but last time I checked they don’t serve breakfast at Applebee's. (LOL)

hi jj! the kid probably just imitated what he sees from the grown-ups around him. getting in the car and driving to a diner when they want breakfast. or he probably saw it on tv. that kid's gotta be clever and very observant. he knew where to insert the key. ^__^;;

Hi SB! Having that child like heart is definitely not a bad thing; you'll always stay young, and even if you don't always feel young, you'll be young at heart.

I agree with you. When a child is young, he or she just wants to grow up. Now that we're our present age we want to be younger, though! (LOL) Anyway, what you say is true because I remember when I was young always wanting to do something else, something that "older kids" did. Some scenario here. I appreciate your insight into this discussion because you definitely thought from a child's perspective. Thanks, Secret Bear!

What was the grandma doing when the kid went missing for that long?! Honestly, my mom nor my m-i-l would ever have the responsibility of my child again! The kid isn't the one who should get in trouble--the grandma is! If he was so hungry that he decided to take the car, I wonder how many times he'd said it to her and been ignored... While it is kind of cute as a mental picture, it's exceptionally sad and scary as hell in real life! My son is brilliant enough to figure out the car, too, but I'd murdalize someone for being that neglectful of him! *shakes head in shocked disbelief*

You're so right, Faerie, because when it comes right down to it, the little boy could've killed himself accidentally by his grandma's negligence. I'm not sure what she was doing meanwhile her grandson was able to do something like this. It could've been much worse than it turned out to be. She's lucky nothing more happened. I think it appears to be funny and cute now after the fact only because nothing seriously happened. However, I hope this sort of thing doesn't keep reappearing just because it was a cute mistake. People really need to be more aware of where their children are and what they're doing. Kids are smart nowadays, especially with all the stuff they see on TV! Thanks for your response.

Hi JJ, Hahahahaha! That is very funny if they don't serve breakfast..They will just disappoint customers if after hearing the commercials will be crowding there and want to eat their breakfast! They will be in trouble..LOL!

I don't know why the wouldn't serve breakfast after this incident! I don't know that they made a commercial out of what this little boy did, but I think they should before they start serving breakfast there. I think it'd be funny. (LOL)

My older brother did something similar when he was only 2 years old. Only he backed the car into the neighbors bird bath, so no one was without power because of it.

I'm glad it was a bird bath rather than a power box. (LOL) To think kids can do things like this at that age! Of course, with all the driving simulated video games, I wouldn't be surprised if kids tried to drive as soon as they could walk! Thanks for sharing a similar experience. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but now it definitely gives us a good laugh! Take care.
