I very much admire, respect, and love my daughter and her husband.
They got married at 19 when ed was stationed in hawaii. He is a marine. Suni is studying to be an elementary school teacher.
Both kids were raised by single moms.
They've known each other since 9th grade, but never dated.
we're just friends, mom !
Some family members felt 19 was way too young to get married.
i have been married and divorced twice myself.
i made sure to talk with her about marriage and responsibility...how important it is when you gave your word and love to someone.
i'm sure they would agree there have been only two difficult times for them.
the first year, living in hawaii and so far from home. as usual, ed had weeks and even months that he was gone. suni had to accept the head of the household while he was away.
the second time was 3 years ago, ed volunteered to go to iraq. that was the longest year!
they are very strong together and very happily married. both are 30 now. ed is career and they will relocate again in 2 years. which will be about the time suni finishes college.
i truly think of ed more as my son, than a son-in-law. i am truly blessed to have these two in my family.

thank you for the compliment, louise.
i think it's wonderful that you are not only proud of your sons
for their life's accomplishments...but also for having chosen
a future DIL whom you already admire.
hehe, you are special and i'm sure he picked one for himself

This is wonderful Sam!!! I know you are filled with joy and pride and you have every right to be. :)
My daughter has been dating a young man for five months now and I don't think it is a matter of if but when they will get married. In fact, he has already told her and myself that I will make a good mother-in-law LOL!!
I have had more talks with my daughter since she and Mark have been dating than we ever had. He is older than her by 17 years but it has helped her greatly when maturing. I already feel like Mark is part of our family also.
I hope that I have given Amanda the same good advice that you gave your daughter and that when they get married they will be as happy as your daughter and son-in-law are.
God Bless and Hugs!!
