Are you one of those people that can type without looking at the keyboard?

I mostly depends on whether I am fully awake or half-asleep while I type..! It is quite amazing what the human mind and body is capable of as one can locate the keys on the keyboard from memoryCan you type without looking at the keyboard? Or maybe, you look at the keyboard and not the screen? Do you make loads of 'typos' while you do it and have to correct them? Maybe you're really good at typing and this is easy for you?

I can type without looking at the keyboard. Sometime I mess up and need to look, but not that often. I took typing in high school, hoping to get a job as a secretary, but didn't. So I worked for 20 years as a waitress. Then I got a computer and just started typing away as if it was yesterday that I learned how!

I can type without looking at the keyboard, heck I'm doing it right now. I tend to make lots of typos if I'm really tired. I have the bad habit of being an insomniac, particularly when I'm writing books...which tend to command me more than I command the stories...but anyway, heh. But I don't usually do too many typos, when I do it's not usually enough to warrant spell-checker -- spell-checker is reserved for when I've gone several days without sleep, not just regular tired, heh. Typing has become easy for me. I'm pretty quick at it, as well...I'm a writer so I guess it'd be pretty sad if I couldn't type well, heh.

Pretty handy being able to type fast if you're a writer or you'd be stuck with a notebook in hand For me, it also depends on how good my concentration is at the time I am typing. If I am quite tired, then I find I won't trust my brain that much so I'll often catch a glimpse of the keyboard and at certain times of the day

Yeah I can. And the best thing about it is I can type with the proper fingers on the specified keys. Plus, I can type numbers with ease too. I guess our forced typing class in high school helped me and my schoolmates to type properly and with ease, not to mention speed typing which is a great help for school projects and term papers. =) How bout you? Yeah, it's very easy for me to type, actually that's the main reason why I joined mylot. I love typing and expressing myself. And I can even type everything I say, hmm.. just imagine, if you're talking to me, I could type my response at the same time I'm saying it. Yeah, I know it's cool! =)

Yeah, pretty good multi-tasking! For me, it depends on how wide awake I am at the time and that's not too often if I am not at work

No, I don't need to look at the keyboard when typing. I'm in my early 40's and I took typing classes in High School. Back then my teacher had the keyboard chart hanging for the first 2 weeks of school after that the chart went up and black electrical tape went on the typewriter keys. If you didn't remember it you were pretty much out of luck. I learned on a manual typewriter and there was no way to correct your errors, what was there was there. And if you got just one letter wrong it screwed up your whole test and you would get an F. So, when computers became popular I already knew how to type by touch. It is really handy as I can type 60 words per minute without ever looking at my hands. My kids think I am a "super fast typer"! Have a great day and happy myLotting!

Good for you! My mum is also really great at typing and she learnt in school too and has a huge type writer at home that she used loads before PCs came on the scene as she worked in admin for sometime.. I do think she's superfast too and pure genius at it

Hi! Im glad to say that I can do that now.^_^ Before I have to look at the keys and it would be very hard for me to look at what Im typing and where Im typing or what keys Im going to press. I do memorize the keyboard but its just so hard to keep my eyes from where I press the keys. But now, since Ive been myLotting, I can honestly say that my typing has improved. I can type without looking at the keyboard but I have to look at it sometimes just for starters and for confirmation.^_^ And the stubborn left pinky can press the "A" now! Before I had to press it with my index finger. My pinky used to be just curled up and hiding behind the other fingers now I can use it. Cant say the same thing about my right fingers though. The only 'working' fingers on my right are the index and middle fingers. Oh, and the pinky also but not for the "P" or any other letters. Its just for the "Shift" and "Enter".LOL! Maybe I should start working on it. Hopefully, they'd just run their course.^_^

I think I mostly use my pinky for the shift and CTRL keys and it is hiding most of the time too! I also often look for confirmation and I think sometimes I'll look at the keyboard a bit longer to double-check..

Hahah! It will come with more practise, you will not even realise it when you start not to look, try some type tests online or just get a book and try to copy and type fast to increase your speed using notepad or word or just even typing more responses here..

I'm one who can type without looking at the keyboard. i can type in the dark too. sometimes i can feel around on the keyboard and know what keys i'm touch and find the keys i want. i had to take a typing class in school, so i got used to typing without looking at the keys because that is what they taught us to do. they teach you were the basic keys are that you lay your fingers on and then the surrounding ones. and i've been typing and playing on computers for the last 15 years so i've gotten pretty good at it. I can type like 60 words per minute on a good day.

Keyboard - Typing on a key board
Yes, I can type without looking a the keys. It's like my mind and fingers have the keys remembered to the point I can look at the computer screen. Or look at the tv or around the room and my fingers are going to the right keys. That is a good thing though. What you think you end up seeing on the screen after your mind tells your fingers what to do. Some times I have loads to typos if I try and go to fast. Without taking the time to make sure the my fingers are going in the correct place.

That's great. You must've had plenty of practice then. With me it depends on how much I am concentrating and the fastest I've ever been at typing is about 35wpm which is nothing compared to some..but at least I still get my work done

Hi marina, I am a typist who doesn't look at the keyboard. Al least I only do from time to time. I have been typing since high school so I pretty much know even when I'm making a mistake and hitting the wrong keys. It's is like I could do it in my sleep and sometimes I think I might be doing it, at least here on mylot! I still make mistakes especially when I'm trying to get a point across and I submit before I really look at the content carefully. Believe me, I've seen some of my posts. Some of it is a vision problem (need new glasses).

I am sure we've all made those mistakes, typos and submitting before we read through the content thoroughly and hoping it just makes sense to whoever reads it..

Hello, I usually type without looking at the keyboard and normally don't make mistakes unless my fingers get ahead of myself. I can also have a conversation with someone (face to face) and still type an e-mail. This really tends to freak people out. One part of my mind is concentrating on my e-mail while the other part is concentrating on the person. Both my conversation and my e-mails make sense. I don't know how I do it but I can!

I usually type looking at the screen. But when I'm a bit sleepy or tired I make a lot of typos so it usually takes me longer to finish typing a single sentence! But normally, yeah I don't need to look at the keyboard when typing. We had a typing class in my highschool before and we used the old-fashioned typewriter. It was very hard (literally) to type and you need to use force when pressing the alphanumeric keys. Anyone can type pretty well after being forced to use that for almost a year!

I was never a great typist but when I started teaching our city hospital nurses how to use a computer I realized they had zero typing skills. That was going to make it really tough and frustrating for them so I added a typing course as the first course they would take. To be sure I was comfortable with the software we were using to teach typing that I decided to take the same course. It increased my typing so much that I was actually blown away by the software. I can type pretty much everything without looking, except some of the keys I never use. It is amazing but when what I find really amazing is how I can play guitar without needing to look at my chord hand any more. I used to have to watch as I changed each chord. So it just gets easier them more we practice.

Although my fingers are already quite familiar with thekeyboards, I still glance at the keyboards often when typing especially when I am in a hurry. I type faster and commit lesser mistakes if I look at the keyboard when typing. I guess it's really a psychological thing. I like to see what my fingers are doing. :)

I type without looking at the keyboard. I look at the screen so I can see where my mistakes are. My husband is always asking me how can you type without looking. I always tell him it was something they teach you in junior high when you start typing class it is not hard to learn how. I can actually type fairly fast now.
