lip problems

A friend of mine had a rather sizeable cancer removed from her lip earlier in the week. She's fine, but now she asks everybody if they ever realized they need to use sunblock under lip gloss! I had no idea, but it makes sense. Lip gloss acts like oil on a pan when cooking -- it magnifies the heat! Please take a fraction of a second and, before you use those yummy-looking glosses, spread a little sunblock on yur lips. We want everyone too stay on myLot!

I'm so glad I found your discussion, now I'll think twice about just buying any sort of lip gloss. But what I tend to put on my lips beneath the layer of lip gloss is not lipstick--it's chapstick. haha. Do you think I'd have the same problem with that, if I use lip balm instead of lipstick?

Sorry, but the report I read just yesterday said Chapstik is just as bad, as far as acting like the oil we put in pans before cooking. It increases the heat, as well as the damage. I think everyone just has to slather on sunblock everywhere before going outdoors. Thanks for the response.

I don't know...I think everyone's physiology is different so everyone can take different things. I've lived in the sun for most of my life and am perfectly healthy so I never will bother with sunblock because I don't burn. (I've been something more of a hermit lately, so I've been fighting not to lose my skin pigment staying indoors so much ^_^') I only wear lipgloss when my lips are chapping anyway! lol. P.s. I hope you don't take this as me belittling your friend's medical issue, because I'm not. I don't envy anyone who gets any sort of cancer. I'm just farm-folk, we're naturalists and kinda set in my viewpoint about nature lol.

Studies have shown this to be true. Well here is another one of mankind's creation that came back to haunt them. Being vain is really insane. LOL

Welcome to myLot, newbie! In many cases, if not most, it has nothing to do with being vain. Most people think lip balm or lip gloss will protect them from sun problems. It's counterintuitive to think sunblock is also needed. I also find that lip gloss or lipstick can be an absolute necessity! Without them, my lips become chapped and uncomfortable. From now on, though, there will always be a layer of sunblock first! How do guys stand it? They're almost always bare-lipped.

Well I don't know about other guys but I haven't had an instance of having chappy lips so I honestly don't use them. But perhaps sometime I'll try. :D
