TERRIFIED! I have a dental phobia. But..there are real good ones that specialise in people like me and you that are afraid. -Look in the phone book. You can have them totally knock you out with gas before they even go NEAR your tooth, if it hurts!(Mine knows it is the only option and does that for me..or I could not make myself ever get there.) Truse me..afraid or not, nothing is worse than being afraid AND having a tooth hurting. Why suffer? Find a dentist that takes care of those of us with true dental phobias and make yourself go get it taken care of. You'll be glad later. The only other HOME option is to be brave and yank the damned thing out, and you don't have to lose it.

Well, I'm a dentist and I must say 8 out of 10 persons are deathly afraid of us.So, you guys are not alone in the world.I beg to disagree with a post here that dentists are BAD PERSONS.It is bad if you have bad oral hygiene. Most fears are brought about by traumatic experiences. If you have children, try bringing them at an early age say 3 years old to familiarize them with dental procedures. This too will expel fears they could have when you bring them at a much later age.Visiting the dentist twice a year is a must.Tartar build up cannot be removed by ordinary brushing.More than 80% of the world's population has cavities.Do not be scared of dental treatment. A badly carioused tooth can cause you your life. This is a fact. :)

hi coffeebeatnik! I am so sorry that you have to encountered all scared patient, i think you should sue the "The Dentist" film maker who makes people scared of the dentist. I wasn't afraid of the dentist when I was a kid, I like it being in the dentist room where it is all clean and smell good. But then one incident happened when a dentist took my tooth because a new tooth is growing. It is not about the tooth, but she took it so sudden and it is quite traumatic for a 6 years old girl. Since then, I tried my best not to go to the dentist again..

Hello Claudine. It's ok.In my profession, it's normal to encounter hindrances such as fearful patients. What I do especially for children is to familiarize them with dental procedures. For first timers I usually do prophylaxis (cleaning) only to enable them to get used to the idea that there is nothing to be afraid of. Unfortunately, as with all other professions, not all practitioners are the same.I'm sorry you had a traumatic experience.Still, this should not inhibit you from visiting other dentists because dental problems could also lead to other illnesses. It is a matter of finding a dentist you'll be comfortable with.Good Luck!

thank you coffeebeatnik Well, I almost never go to the dentist again after the orthodontist took out my tooth braces. I wore it for 4 years, and I went to the dentist 2-3 times a months. Paid her well, and still now my teeth looks bad because the braces effects has gone. sigh. I'm glad to know that you are a good dentist. Keep up the good job, Coffeebeatnik!

Many years ago, I was. I was so freaked out about going to the dentist because of the recent experience I had with it, and it was painful. Last time I went was when I was a kid, and I had a dreadful feeling when they were about to operate on my teeth. It felt so painful that I squealed at them to stop, and they did. That's when I don't EVER want to go to the dentist again. I'm not afraid of needles because now I have to do bloodwork done in letting them draw blood from me, but I am afraid of the dentist because of what I said earlier. I've never went back to one ever since.

When I was young I am scared and ashamed of going to the dentist. Because my teeth are rotten and I was afraid the dentist will scold me for it. But as I grow old, I realized the importance of going to the dentist. For they help us solve our problems concerning our teeth and gum.

I go regularly. Good dental health leads to good health overall. We use Ora Jel for ocassional mouth pain. But thats just til we get to the dentisit. We don't avoid going.

Maybe you should change your toothpaste to sensidine it is meant to be good for sensitive teeth. You should go to the dentist, otherwise I problem will get worse and that will mean more visits to the dentist at a later date. I am not scared of the dentist, I just hate the sound and taste of the rubber gloves that they use. I have one filing, but that is it and the rest of my teeth are in good healthy. Another thing you can do to avoid going to the dentist is brush your teeth more thoroughly for two minutes per session. Also try and cut out certain foods that contain acid.

Well you haven't seen anything yet. I used to wear a tooth braces, for 4 years. All those years I have to go back over and over again to the dentist ever 1 or 2 months. Can you imagine that? lol And you don't know what happened after the regular check, my teeth would all feel painful because the braces pull the teeth to fix the teeth structure. yeah... tell me about it..

Yes I am scared for going to the dentist. My teeth is perfect till now I dont have any problem but I went once to dentist along with my aunt she had some filling problem and her situation was horrible, I can never forget how the dentist has given the treatment to her, it was really horrible, she could not bear the pain at all. I dont know any home remedies but if you want your teeth to shine or become white you can brush the teeth with little salt!

It is advisable to have teeth cleaning every 6 months.I don't scared going to the dentist because it is for taking care of my teeth. We also floss every night before brushing our teeth.Nobody could fix your teeth so i would suggest you should go to the dentist and don't be scared. Its better than having a toothache.
