Poor kitty

She's had a recent bladder infection, so in addition to the demeaning visit to the vet, lots of poking and prodding, and shaving of her "area", we are now wiping her bum for her. She doesn't clean it well enough, so we bought some unscented, alcohol-free baby wipes. *headdesk* She was NOT amused when I did the first wipe. Hopefully she'll get used to it. We figure a couple dollars of prevention and a daily wipe will prevent another $200 fiasco...

Is your kitty overweight? That may be why she can't clean herself. You might be better off using a paper towel and plain water on her. If you would like her to lose some weight, feed her only at meal time, twice a day, and only canned food. You can mash up some French cut green beans into her food -- start with a teaspoon. She won't mind it and it will help her slim down.

Her being overweight is a contributing factor. Between that and being a long-haired cat, it's very easy for her to get dirty down there and be prone to UTIs. I may have to try the green bean thing, especially because she has NEVER been much of an active cat. Really, I've lived with her from when she was under 2 years old, even then she was a bit of a layabout :) And I do play with her!

Something you can do, so when she uses the box spray her butt with a spray of water from a water bottle. She will want to clean the area immediately.

My cats are so deathly afraid of anything that sprays I don't think I could do that! But then again I can see how it would work.
