How do you prioritize reading with the rest of your life?

Do you let reading books take last place behind work, social events, housework, eating, etc? Or do you fit it into your schedule because you believe reading is as important as other things in your life?

I cannot imagine having a life without reading. I love to read. I always have a book in my purse, that I can pull out everytime I have some free time. I read during my lunch break at work. At home, before I go to bed, I make sure I have at minimum an hour for reading. If I'm not reading, I will be listening to some audiobook, like when I'm commuting to work. Also, when my eyes get tired, I switch to an audiobook, put on headphones, and settle in. So yes, for me, reading is just as important as other parts of my life.

I believe that reading is very important and therefore I believe it is as important as other things I do in my life. However, I do not place reading (or any other hobby) over work (meaning my job). I don't stay home from work in order to finish a good book though sometimes I wish I did. This is not to say that if I am reading a good book, that I don't stay up way too late at night to see how it ends, for instance, and then feel tired the next day at work. LOL I do tend to prioritize reading over housework, but I am not the world's greatest housekeeper anyway. I often eat while reading so those two do not conflice. I think that if you don't have reading as a priority, then there are a lot of other things in life that will push it aside -- that's what I tend to think when I hear people say that they don't have time to read. If you are watching TV or surfing the net, then you are choosing to do that over reading. I am not saying that I don't do that. In fact, lately my reading has really been diminished by these activities. However, I realize as I am doing them that I am making that choice. It is not that I don't have time to read.

I suppose it depends on what the work is. I might prioritize reading over certain social events, but prioritize other social events over reading. For instance, if the social event is just a meeting with my friends, I may or may not attend, simply because I already see them every day. If the social event involves folks I see rarely, I would make plans to attend. As for housework, I'm far too lazy about that, so I definitely do choose to read before going about housework. It's just more enjoyable that way.
