Husband bit by spider

My husband was bit by a spider the other day at work. He said he thought it was a bee because it was fuzzy and yellow and black in color. He flung it off his arm but then it landed on his shoulder. A guy he works with knocked it off and told him it wasn't a bee but spider. I was scared to death that he'd get sick! He said all it did was get red and itch. Like a bee sting would for people who aren't allergic. I looked up spider bites and they found that your are supposed to use a cold compress and tylenol for pain unless it's a black widow or brown recluse. Those two you need to get to the doctor with. You can't even see where my husband was bit today. He had no adverse affects thank goodness. In his line of work they have to watch out for this stuff. He said it was before daylight when this happened, otherwise he would have saw the web. I sure hope it doesn't happen again!

I got bit in the face by a common house spider years ago. I happened when I was sleeping I think. I woke up with a red mark on my cheek similar to what you described here. I knew I had been bit by something. The red mark got bigger so I went to the doctor. He is who told me it was a spider bite. He gave me some salve because I didn't do as you did with your husband and I have very sensitive skin. The whole area that was red dried up and peeled. It was really grouse. Glad we have internet now to research quickly. Maybe I would have not gone through what I did had it been available back then!

I'm glad you didn't have any worse problems with your spider bite! I know what you mean about the Internet. I look up every health problem anyone in my family gets..lol. My luck, if I get bit by a spider I'll have a bad reaction. I seem to have bad luck with everything health related.

What work does he have? Well I guess its all part of the job whatever job it may be. Now that he has an experience all I can say is you can now be at ease because your husband will know what to do next time it happens. But I'm not hoping that it ever happens again.

He's an electrical lineman. He puts power poles up. They often work in underbrush and around high grass and things where spiders love to hide and build webs. Not to mention the log piles that the poles are kept in. I sure hope it doesn't happen again either!

Spider bites are really common. You will often get them at night and not even know it except for a small red bump that hurts. It is a good thing it was not one of the harmful ones. My mother-in-law has a big whole in her leg from a black widow bite, It rotted away her flesh and she was in the hospital for several weeks because of it.

That's awful what happened to your Mother-in-law! I'm glad he didn't get bit by one of the bad ones either. I told him to be really careful this week!

I get completely creeped out by spiders. Especially those big hairy ones. I've never seen a yellow and black one, but I don't want to see a yellow and black one! He's lucky he didn't have a bad reaction or get sick or anything from that spider bite. I get very itchy alot and I think it's from spider bites. Living in FL there are all kinds of creepy crawlies and varmits all over the place. Glad your husband is okay and has had no bad reaction to his spider bite. Take care.

I was more worried than he was! I'm glad he was ok too. You watch out for spiders. I'm glad we don't have too many here. We are just overrun with ants. At least they don't bite!

We have fire ants here also, mostly in the woods though. The ones that are around the house are the little black ants that don't bite. Or at least I've never been bit by one anyway.
