On Monday, July 29th I realized that nearly a year had passed since my 50th birthday. The next day I would be 51-years old. I then realized that I didn't fulfill my promise to myself to get a tattoo of a butterfly. Of course, that is the least of my worries. So many things have happened in the past year. My head swims whenever I think of them all. Good, bad, happy, sad, moments to remember, moments to forget. I went to bed at 10:30 on the 29th of July. I woke on the 30th not feeling any different. The pillow felt extremely comfy and I didn't want to leave the comfort of my bed. As I lay there I gazed out the window and saw the sun shining through the trees and heard the soft chirping of the birds as they sang their morning songs. With a sigh I rose from the bed to greet the day. At the end of my work day I picked up my grandson and we headed to buy my birthday pie. Blueberry was my choice. We had dinner at home with the pie for dessert. Dinner was nothing spectacular, but it was a good meal. I didn't trip when I crossed that line from 50 into 51. Life at 51 is still as good as it was when I was 50. Now if I can drum up the courage to get that darned tattoo.

Well my dear butterfly, a very Happy Birthday to you! Well not 51, yeah I remember it! Was almos 5 years ago. I will be 56 in 2 months. Now that's scary! You need to get that damned butterfly tatoo! I still want one myself and the funny thing is that I want a butterfly too! I have always wanted a butterfly! I collect buttterfly things, I love butterflys! I have a story about them. It's really stupid but I guess I'll tell you since it's your birthday. I'm warning you that my mother really screwed me up and this is an example- Here goes... When I was about 5 years old I was staying at my grandparents apartment and I was getting ready for a nap. Apparently a moth or a butterfly flew in the window or something and I got scared. It landed on my pillow. I didn't want to go to sleep. So my genious mother told me that it was ok, that the butterfly was lost, it lived in Arizona and it was trying to find it's way home. Don't ask me or her where that story came from-she to this day doesn't know, she had a vivid imagination! So every time I saw a butterfly from that time on I would say to my mother "ooo mommy look, there's a lost butterfly, it's on it's way home to Arizona"-Hence the screwed up woman I am today!" So my love for butterflys grew throughout the years and I still want a butterfly tatoo. You must get one so it will no longer be elusive....butterfly....

Thank you for sharing your story. I too collect butterflies. My kids often give me gifts with a butterfly theme. I appreciate them, but am running out of space to display them all.

Happy Belated Birthday, I remember last year you were going to get that tattoo, I had thought you had gotten it already. You had a discussion and asked for ideas on butterflies. I think I remember you daughter got a tattoo too. The years sure do go by quickly sometimes. Blueberry for your birthday pie was a good choice, some vanilla ice cream for on top would have been good too.

If I am not mistaken in my memory some family member, sister or daughter even drew an image for you, or found one. Hubby was not too thrilled with the idea either. You are certainly right, we have a lot of us had very up and down years. Are you on an up or a down right now? I think I am back on my way up.

I'm 52 and I still for the most part feel no different than when I was much younger. the biggest difference is that I have learned more and don't do all the stupid things I did back then...still do stupid things....just different stupid things. I don't worry about age either. whats the point? it's going to happen want it or not. I say you should go get that tatoo if you want it. Just do it.

Hey if you have always wanted a tattoo you should pluck up the curage and go for it! I bet you will feel alot better afterwards if you were having these thoughts before your birthday. Happy Birthday to you by the way! Hope your day was pleasent! Let me just tell you though while reading your text I got a negative vibe from it so it seems to me that you are quite saddened by either your age or the tattoo-less-ness (Is that even a word, :P?)

I love butterflies so much.... as well as Martina McBride's song "She's a butterfly, free as a crimson sky; Nothing's ever gonna bring her down God bless the butterfly, give her the strength to fly Never let her wings touch the ground." HAPPY HAPPY 51st birthday Madame..

I always thought that I would live to be a hundred. If you take my goal then you would only be 1 year past the halfway mark. There are many more wonderful mornings waiting for you. Cheers!!

Congrats! I am quickly approaching 60, but do not even feel close. Life seems better these days, and I think I do more fun things now than when I was younger. I make sure I travel more, go on more roller coasters, life goes by way to fast. I have to laugh at some of the younger people when I tell them the things I still do, they say at your age? Well geeze I do not look or feel old, why shoud I act it. I have a friend who has acted old since she was 30. Needless to say I do not spend as much time with her because of it, which is sad.

Why don't you go ahead and get that tattoo young lady if that is what you want? I personally wouldn't get one but to each his own. You are still a young woman and be proud of it. I am forty and life is just beginning. I guess you do get to a certain age and after a while you just don't feel any different after each birthday.

The best part of any life story is to keep the spirit up and high, this positive energy not only helps you to stay active but also helps people around you to live a better life. And 51 is not that old age anymore. You are just little more experienced than most of us here. But it is the tenderness of heart that counts. And your voice speaks of the young mind within you. Keep the spirit high.

Good for you Elusive Butterfly. I am going to be 51 in November. I have no desire to get a tatoo though. They are painful for one thing. I guess that I will be doing most of the same things at age 51, but hopefully making alittle more money than I am now. That would be the best birthday present I could have.

Belated happy birthday to you! I am glad that you had a good day, I personally hate this aging thing, I think we should get to a certain age and stay there. I personally would choose 29, and I am sticking with that LOL Oh, and yes you should get the tattoo done, you might regret it if you dont!

Well congrats on getting 51. Now you're 5 decades old. As far as concerning about your tattoo. Men are the one to keep his words not women so just chill and get a damn tattoo of butterfly or something new came to your mind. Live Life Queen Size. ThankYou. Jesse.
