Best response, a puzzling option.

We can rate a response as the best response on our discussion. It is a good power we have to judge the mylot members who respond to our discussions. We are the sole authority to make our decisions regarding choosing someone as best among others. I am not sure how important it is to choose a best response. I thought that unresolved discussions are not good to be kept and started rating those unresolved discussions. I started well and when it come to a discussion where only one member has responded, I was confused. Being the sole respondant, he is to adjudged the best response even though he does not deserve it. Anyway, if we judge such a response, will it affect us by someway? To be true, I don't like unresolved discussions and trying to minimise the numbers. As a result I am selecting best response out of my discussions and closing them up. But, this thought struck my mind while I was about to rate a discussion with a single response. I will be benefitted for your kind guidance and what are the circumstances that may result out of rating such responses?

If you want to resolve the discussion and it only has one response, you would have to mark that one as best response. There is no reason why you should not do this, or you can leave it unresolved if you prefer. I have received best responses sometimes when mine was the only response and I always appreciate it. A single response can still be a good one. Even if the response is not very good, it could make the person happy to get a best response, as they may not have many. It will not harm you to give a best response when there is only one.

Thanks for your advise. I was thinking that the site may have some restrictions regarding rating best response. I shall go with some of the discussions to close them as I don't think there would be any further response to them. The most important thing is that, once a discussion accumulates time, it is gets to the bottom of the lot if not commented by many a members. So, if we keep them for weeks together also, they won't be getting comments. Therefore it is better to close such discussions.
