Litter cleanup nets over 1,000 cigarette butts in one block of my town!

I'm a smoker but I don't throw my butts out the window or leave them on the street. It's disgusting to see all the cigarette butts littering the sidewalks, alleys and steps of our downtown area. When I smoke outside, I have a receptacle for my butts. When I'm somewhere else, maybe at a temp job, and smoke outside, I extinguish the butts and carry them with me for later disposal. Disgusting, I know, but better than littering!
Does your city have this problem? Are you a caring smoker or do you throw them just anywhere?

I am a caring ex-smoker. I do not like to see butts thrown around either. Any public spot in our town is usually littered with butts and I think it is disgusting. Nor do I appreciate people who throw their litter in my yard. Use to have a neighbor who threw his butts over into my yard. One of the reasons I quit smoking was because I was the kind of smoker that was constantly washing ash trays and brushing my teeth. But you know what, I may of used some extra calories doing that lol.

I do not smoke myself but I do see the litter which is the butts on the ground. It can be a mess once in a while. I don't like them to be on the lawn. Seems like people just throw them anywhere and everywhere.
I appreciate the fact that you do not practice this littering. It can really dirty up nice areas and it doesn't look pleasing at all. In fact, it is unsightly.
There really isn't a whole lot that I see around my way but it could be better.

I am a smoker and it makes no sense to me to think that it is not littering. I will put mine out and carry a baggie to put them in, so that I can dispose of them when I get home.

I think us smokers should be responsible, just like others are supposed to be responsible with their own trash. Good for you! We need more like you and me and smokers wouldn't be thought so lowly of.

I live in a pretty small town, to be honest with you now you have brought this up, I do not think we have many discarded butts lying around.
I smoke also, but I only smoke at home, outside in my garden and I have a thing to put them in. The only time I smoke away from the house is if I am out all day. I never throw them on the floor though I always use the special bins that are around.

I must confess i sometimes through my butts out of the window [only when i don't have an ashtray and never where it could catch on fire]. Or even sometimes on the ground. Its wrong . . . i know! But I never ever through anything else on the ground, I'll keep it in my pocket untill I can dispose of it. Most parts of my city are really clean but acouple parts have butts all over the ground.

I really hate seeing the butts all over the ground. I always put them out then throw them in a receptacle. We smokers are vilified anyway and we should take care to dispose of our waste. Of course, the absence of ashtrays contributes to it!

hi dragon no I dont smoke but I do applaud you for being
'a caring smoker. my city also has this problem but there are
trash bins if people wou ld just take a second or so and use them instead of throwing trash on the street. I really hate to see litter all over instead of being put in a proper receptacle.

People who litter are nothing but trash themselves, inconsiderate of others. They should be put to work cleaning up the city.
