One of my favorite fruits!!! This big fruit deserves it's own big day. And, so we give pause to celebrate watermelons on National Watermelon Day. Sweet and tasty, watermelons are one of summer's favorite fruit. It's standard fare at picnics. While watermelon is over 90% water, it sure tastes good. And, what picnic would be complete without a seed spitting contest? Our research was unable to establish this day a a true national day (which requires an act of congress). We also have not uncovered the origin of this day. we suspect it originated by an agricultural organization, or perhaps a wild and crazy watermelon fan. Please don't limit your consumption of watermelon to just this month. Stores carry watermelon twelve months of the year. Okay, now here's a holiday I can really get into. I love watermelon! And I'm out of it right now! And we just got back home from running around. Looks like I won't be celebrating Watermelon Day. Anyhoo, I do love it and it does help me drop some weight due to its water content. Even my husband will eat a little bit of cold watermelon and he doesn't eat that many fruits. You are a peach for telling us about National Watermelon Day! P.S. I love salt on my watermelon.

My youngest and I can do some damage eating watermelon! We are growing sugar babies, they are not quite ripe yet. I have never tried adding salt to it.

I love watermelon. I've heard it has as much lycopene as tomatoes. My dad always tells a story about a couple of guys selling big slices of watermelon. They said "Watermelon 25 cents! Eat, drink and wash your face!"

Watermelons!?!?!? Ugh!! I know they are good for you but I can't stand them anymore. I used to eat watermelon when I was a kid. For some reason, though, I cannot eat them now, nor can I handle the smell of watermelon. When my daughters were little, they used to chew watermelon flavored chewing gum. Yuck! It would stink up the car and I told them they can chew the stuff anywhere they wanted to but not in the car!!!
