Have you ever travelled alone? Is it normal for a girl to travel alone?

I plan to travel to Singapore in November. When i say i will go alone, everyone asks me why: why u go alone? why don't go with your bf or friends?... It makes me feel weird and discourages my plan. So I just wonder if there is anyone on MyLot used to travel alone and can give me some advice for this.

Singapore is a very safe and orderly sort of city with much of interest. I have been there three times and have been alone at the different times. I began traveling on my own when I was 18, going around Europe by train. I met many other travelers and the local people. At first my family and friends thought I was strange for wanting to travel alone but they soon found out this was normal. After saying goodbye to my sister in Los Angles I traveled around the world alone. I also went to New Zealand on my own, stopping off in the USA and the Pacific Islands. You will be fine traveling on your own I am sure but in Muslim countries you might get comments from the local men. I had this happen to me in Sumatra, but the people are not like that in Singapore or Malaysia. The local people there are friendly and helpful, not bothersome.

Wah... I'm so jealous with your traveling experience!! If my plan can carry on, it will be my first time travel to another country. I wish I can visit all neighbor countries next year. Singapore will be the first destination.

I have traveled for leisure alone before. It's not a big deal to me, you just have to be careful. It's dangerous enough to travel with a group, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area, but even more dangerous to travel alone. I'm not trying to scare you, just make sure you're always aware of your surroundings and be a little more careful just in case. Have a great trip -- don't worry about what others say and have a fun trip by yourself! :-)

The way I feel about it I'd rather go by myself than not go at all, Going by itself has it's advantages, you can do what you want and not have to worry about someone else. You can do what you want to do. In general it's nice to have someone to share your trip with, but if you are comforable traveling alone why not?

welcome to the wonderful world of mylot. there is no wrong travelling alone. sometimes it is more fun travelling alone than with someone who enjoys something that you do not enjoy. and soon you will end up doing what your companion wants than what you want to do. just take extra care of yourself.

Have travelled lots of times alone.. I need to travel for my work sometimes, and usually I need to go alone, rarely someone goes with me.. I think there aren't many dangers in travelling alone, well I mean if you ain't seeking danger and avoid conflicts :)

Oh i know how you feel. I went to get my passport and everyone wants to be in my business and ask me where I am going. When I tell them they are all like omg do you know where that is. What is there? Why are you going? When I tell them they are like you are crazy you would go there for love and you never actually met the person. So yes of course it makes me wonder if I am doing the right thing. Then i think to myself hey its not there life why on earth would they understand?
