I have been waiting for this day ALL SUMMER. My boys started back to school today! How quite it is. I can actually hear myself think. No bickering, no arguing, no noise at all, just blissful silence. Has your little angels started back to school yet? Will you be glad when they do? I will admit that i am ecstatic and will be for several weeks, then of course i will no longer be ecstatic just happy for the peace and quite for a few hours each day. So how about YOU?

i think you read too much in my response. i never made any refference of you being a "horrible mother" i just simply answered with how i feel about my own kid going back to school.. which was the question you asked.

When they were younger i enjoyed them being out for the summer. We live in a small city where there were parks where they could play of a morning and things for them to do, that is not the case here. Here they are miserable because it's to hot and humid for them to play outside (they both have asthma) so they have all the energy of 12y/o and 13y/o boys and no way to expend it, except bickering and arguing with each other. So although it sounds like i am a horrible Mother i am as glad for them as i am for me that they are back in school and routine can be reestablished!

I didn't take it that you meant that i was a horrible Mother, I feel like i am simply because i am their Mother and should be glad they are at home. It had nothing to do with anything you said.

Hello bro, I also love the period of August very much because it is really something to look forward to every time because my whole family marks an important date on the calendar. And right now in my country, the weather is mostly dark and cloudy and raining for a bit, which is heaven because it has been hot and humid all these previous months before and it's awesome to be getting some coolness! Have a happy remaining August to you... ~

Here August is humid, rainy and hot. Right now we are under a flood watch from tropical storm Fay so there is even rain than usual. School has been canceled and i am hoping my husband's work calls and tells him that that is canceled also (he works closer to where the middle of the storm is).

i don't have kids yet... so i can't say anything about this... but i am just imagining that i will be ecstatic like you as well to be able to get away from my kids for few hours everyday and have a quiet time for myself... otherwise, they will keep on disturbing us and we can never have a quiet time until they go to bed... take care and have a nice day...

It is almost impossible to have a routine during the summer and children does not do well without a routine.

Well cj my 2 angels(lol) went back to school on Tuesday and the peace and quiet is fantastic. Bless em they try so hard to help me and look after me but the youngest one especially has so much energy and her brain never stops and she loves to share everything that flits through it with all of us but me in particular! lol I think after 8 weeks off of school they were both glad to get back to some kind of busy routine! lol xxx

My oldest (13) is the one with energy to spare and he even talks in his sleep (honest). They are easier to deal with and keep occupied during the school year, we are ALL happier.

We are homeschoolers, so I don't get this luxury:) We also school year round, so there's not a big difference during summer. Yes, I know that sounds tough, but really it isn't. By not taking big breaks, the work load is very relaxed. The kids can take their time and really get to understand what they are learning, and they don't have to do as much review because the knowledge sticks. Plus my kids aren't growing up thinking everything stops for summer, and its all fun and ganes for three months. They know life continues throughout the year.

Yes, I would agree, but I prefer the term blessed. I am very greatful for my time with my kids. Altho there are times I need a break. But my mom helps out there. She will take one or two for a few days, or even a week or more. That gives the rest of us a little break, and we get more one on one time. I have four, so the bickering and all that is a daily thing...breaks are nice:)

I know how you feel. Our kids started back last week. We get eight hours of peace and I can get thigs done I haven't been able to for the last two months. Unfortunately the fighting seems to start as soon as they get back home. And it seems worse because they have the stress form school making them cranky. But at least I have those eight hours each day to look forward to.

Mine seem to do better with the bickering and arguing during the school year. I think it is because when they get home they are busy with homework (they can't get on the computer or play games until it is done) so they are to busy to aggravate each other. Of course once their h.w. is done all bets are off.LOL

Well they let out in May so take my word it is time for them to get back. When they are in school they don't bicker and fuss as much as when they spend everyday all day around each other.

Enjoy!!!!! Our school year starts in February, and my daughter starts school for the first time next year. I'm not going to know myself! A lot of mums I know are quite sad about their kids starting school, but I think it will be wonderful for her and will probably help save my sanity!

It is hard when they are small and sweet but when they hit about 9 or 10y/o and there are two of them your just grateful for the peace.

I'll bet! Try and get some time to do something nice just for yourself. Mine is small, and sweet about 50% of the time. She just learnt a big lesson though. She's really into not doing what she's told at the moment, and she just touched the hot oven tray because I said not to. It's only a tiny, tiny burn, and we got cold water and aloe vera onto it immediately, but it hurts. It's sad that they have to do silly things to realise that mum is always right.

Yes it is that time again for the youngster's isn't it?. All the kids go back to school on Aug. 25th here I believe. My son lives with his dad and stepmother and my son who is going to be 10 Aug. 16th said that summer just flew by way to fast for him. He'll be going into the 4th grade this year I'm so proud of him. He has everything he needs to go back and was telling me all about it. Enjoy your peice and quiet for I know alot of the parents will be. Have fun and take care.

Lucky, my Mom homeschools so we've always been home. Since I am out of school but still here to help out, I am tired of the kids and just wish they would go away. All they do it fight and bicker and be brats!

At this point, I'm envious! I homeschool, so the summer isn't any different really. We do LESS school work in the summer, but we still do schoolwork. I actually had a mild anxiety attack the other day when I ordered my homeschool curriculum for this year. I KNOW God has called me to homeschool, but that doesn't make it easy. My 7 yr old likes to fight me on all of it, always complains about how boring it is, etc. She could be done in an hour if she would just apply herself and focus, but instead she drags it out. Plus this year will be much more challenging as I have a 4 yr old to try to add in the mix and I have 3 mornings per week that won't be open for homeschooling. AFternoon school work is even harder because they are "tired". Truth be known they've just not interested. If it's in the morning, they don't get any priveleges until it's done! What I would give for a day of peace & quiet!

Truth be told I'm no parent but where I come form school has been on since last June. Well besides that I want to say that I do think parents love it when their children starts to go to school again because there is finally peace at home but I think pretty soon they'll start to miss them. Well I guess it just shows how intertwined parents and children are. Well that's life. :)

Jake goes back to school the 18th CJ, since he is the only one I have left at home I miss him when school goes back. Jake is also a great help to me with the grand babies and chores around the house... But I suppose he will be glad to be back to school and routine.

Maybe if i only had one it would be different but with a 13y/o and a 12y/o i swear they hunt things to argue about and if they can't find something they make something up.

cjrooms hi my son is all grown so I have no little ones to send off to school, nor any grandkids either but I can imagine how peaceful it must be with your boys back at school again. I think school must have started around here as I dont hear any kids skateboarding or calling to each other here in our apartment complex now.

It did indeed start out nice and quite, then my two daughters and three grandchildren showed up. Somehow 2 three year olds and a five year shatters any semblance of quite.LOL I did love seeing them though.

Well, I know what it is to have peace and quiet for a while. I hear you when it comes to that arguing and biggering. I dont have any little ones of my own, for they are all grown, but sometimes am around the grand kids. One 18 and one 10, even though it may be for a short while. They get on my last nerve sometimes. But all and all when you dont see them, you still miss them. We love them all, dont we? Someone told me they keep us young, so enjoy them.

Okay, where in the US are kids back to school ALREADY? Here the school year goes from late August to early June, give or take for snowdays and stuff. Do the schools that start this early get out for the summer in, say, May? I HATED school myself, so I have a sympathetic hatred of back to school time for my son and all children, really. But, as a parent, yeah, I kind of like having him out of my hair on weekdays during the schoolyear! But then again by the end of the schoolyear I'm tired of having to help him with homework and pay attention to all the papers he brings home and whatnot, it's like school become tedious for me as a mother so I'm glad for summer.

In Southeast Ga. they do get out in may and start in august. I hated school too, but both of my boys are very bright and do well in school when thy want to and they like school so i feel absolutely no sympathy for them. After all it is their bickering and fighting that makes me want to beg the board of education to make them go all year around.

My oldest is 5 so he starts school Sept. 2nd. I am quite nervous. They only do half days to start which I think will be good helping him get used to schedule and being away from mom. My daughter is three and I think she will have the biggest issue with it. They are attatched at the hip and I think it will take her awhile to adjust to him not being around as much. He is really pumped though. His school is only about two blocks from our house and he and I have gone to the playground there all summer and he always calls it "his school". We'll see how it goes.

All of my kids loved going to school from day one except my youngest daughter, she hated it and cried everyday for a week. Hopefully your daughter will enjoy having you all to herself and not mind it to much.
