You met online. Do you say so?

“So how’d you two meet?” Show up to any social event with a date, and you’re bound to hear this question. And for the many people who’ve met someone through an online dating site, it can feel like a tough one to answer. While some people have no qualms about sharing the details, others feel a bit embarrassed to go public with the information, somehow feeling it would be more “appropriate” if they had met their date just by accident, without really trying. Do you tell the world how you hooked up—or keep it a secret

My fiance and I both met online, and for the most part, everyone knows that. We met online but through a mutual friend, so if I was to tell someone that didn't know, I know I could clarify and hopefully clear up any judgement by saying that. I think that meeting online is usually frowned upon because of all the crime stories and bad relationships that come out of online and into the media where there usually savaged by everyone!

I would not hide the way that I met a person. There is no need to and it is none of the other peoples business to judge me for how I met a person. I would not be too shy to tell them we met online. I would never keep that a secret.

I don't think there is any shame in meeting someone online. To me it's no different then meeting someone in a grocery store line! lol. Or at Starbucks :P No different! You found someone you're compatible with...great! :) I'm actually currently talking to a guy online. I didn't meet him on one of those dating sites, I don't use those. But we met through similar interests (online game). We have been talking for months now over the internet. Talking live and sending emails back and forth, a lot of emails! lol. I haven't met him personally yet! Still trying to talk myself into doing that lol, I'm just worried that I won't be as good as he thinks I am when we finally do meet. We've seen eachothers pictures, but I still worry! lol. That's just how I am! :P Plus...my parents don't know about him yet. And I don't know how to tell them, or how happy they'll be about it. Like a lot of people, they think talking to people online is too dangerous.

I dont usually think lying is the best way to handle a situation. However, there's such thing as prettying it up a little. Maybe not directly say we met online but something like we met thru a group I am in called myLot. If they question further say that it was a discussion group. If they ask any more they are just plain nosey and I wouldnt play into that. People have a tendency to judge people by the negativity they have heard on the subject they are talking. In other words, they may look at the relationship as a joke considering that television portrays internet romance as a joke, with tragic results. I dont think that lying is the best answer. However, I do believe that there are times when "prettying" it up is the best for everyone. Plus it makes the nosey people PO'd because there's no dirt. Everyone comes out okay. dl

I have no qualms about telling people how I met a certain someone. Why lie about it? I can see people not saying it because they have an insecurity. An insecurity that people will think they dont have any social skills to find a person in real life. Thats pure BS. People shouldnt be afraid to say how they found happiness.IMO

I think it depends on what type of personality do you have. If you're a little reserved on every details of your life then I guess you'll find it difficult to answer. But if you're bubbly and open to everything you'll find this question as fun to answer. And in my case If given the chance I will announced to the whole world how we've met and how madly in love I am to him. Hahahaha...You know i am not the reseved one. ^_^
