I'm a little perplexed over the "rate the post" feature of the discussions on MyLot. I give everyone a positive rating, no matter whether I agree with the response or not. I even give a + to offensive posts, as long as they are not lies or plagerized. I love the free exchange of ideas...good or bad. It's why I went to a public university. I think free speech, no matter how offensive, is the basis of attaining knowledge. Anything short of threats and libel gets a plus from me. How do you rate the discussions?

I don't rate everyone's discussion or response. I rate the ones that provoke thought and thoughtful responses with plus, and nasty, hateful, mean, vulgar responses with minus. I have rated a few with such bad grammar and use of words that I could not even understand what was being said with minus. But I don't do that if I can tell what is being said and meant.

Thanks...I can't handle the just plain nasty, hateful and mean ones either...they're usually stupid, and stupidity is vulgar to me.

I usually give a plus as long as there is nothing completely offensive! I just may stay away from a discussion that is way too offensive. I may give a minus first, and then go to another discussion. I, like many others here, have lost points because of those type of discussions. So I try to steer away from it. I think myLot is a great way for family and friends to stay in touch! Bonus is that we get a little reward for it.

I rate all the responses/posts with a + too even if i dont agree to it. I give a - only when it is a spam post, if it is totally irrelevant or very abusive or vulgar.

I am the same way. If a person isn't being abusive or derogatory, and they are at least close to the subject matter that is being discussed, they get a plus from me. Its a very rare thing for me to use the negative button, but then again, I don't see many instances that I have to use it. If I'm using the negative button, I'm more than likely using the report button along with it because its against the guidelines.
