I am a college student now on my graduating year, and I need my computer for online researches, music downloading, email, chat and discussions with my profs. I am by nature A multi-tasker, however whenever I try to open 3-4 applications at once on my computer I hear a buzzing sound from the fan at the CPU and then ll of a sudden it bails on me... It just shut down on its own... does anybody here know what's going on? :)Please help me my thesis is upcoming and all my files are on this PC...

Hello, I am a PC Tech and can probably help you. First, I have responded to another discussion with a different problem but the answer applies here. Read my reply to this post. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1643415.aspx If that does not help, let me know. I will try to help you more.

Hey Teena, you could have asked for my help. Hehe. How much RAM do you have? Speed of your processor? Maybe you overused it a little bit, because opening 3-4 applications (which I believe consume a lot of memory and processing power)caused such commotion. Hope I could have a look at it but I'm a bit busy. Maybe you could explain more of it when I see you in school.

okie... I was asking for lea's help knowing how busy you were with our publication and all... Besides I really wanted to have someone inspect it, if you had time I would have asked you to... anyways.. I'll explain to you in detail when we meet up at school tomorrow.. thanks for the help though oh and my ram is 256mb, I've got a pentium 4 processor... hope that helps...

sounds like the fan on the cpu is going bad as it heats up the fan starts to act up and thus you hear the buzzing, then the system shuts down on you. the only fix for a cpu fan is to replace it, or have someone replace it for you if your not tech savy

hehe friend, this is really funny and weird problem that you have ... i think that you will need to buy something new, what is not old then 10 years ... dont know how fast is you CPU but i think you need the faster one, and let it be new one

Does the fan stop running? If the fan isn't running the computer might be overheating, which could do serious damage to it. Do you have enough RAM to be able to run all of the programs you want to run at one time? If you don't know much about computers check around on campus for someone taking computer hardware courses and have them take a look at your system. In the meantime, don't have all those applications open at once. It's not worth the risk to your system.

OK thanks... the fan is still running and a few months ago my computer was reformatted and also i changed my RAM from 128Mb to 256MB... do you think that is enough? I have asked some of my computer engineering friends to take a look at it... but with thesis coming up they wee quite busy... Normally I just surf and play some songs on the media player, sometimes I watch videos on youtube... then when I switch the internet off and try playing some games just games no other apps it also shuts down...
