France is one of the most popular countries in the world for tourists. Paris is meant to be the most romantic city in the world. Have you been to France? If so where? Is Paris a romantic destination? What makes it so? If you haven't been to France where would go like to visit?

My friends are heading to Paris tomorrow. I am so envious of them. Too bad, I couldn't take time off to join them. I have never been to France and wish to visit that country one day. France seems like a romantic and cultured country. I would love to visit Paris. I heard France has some famous vineyards. I would love to visit them too.

Yes, that is why I have 2 antique dolls and a collection of costume dolls from around the world. I have Katie, she cost about £300 and Penny, she cost £100. I couldn't have afforded to collect any more antique dolls because of the high prices.

10 000 pounds?! Wow.. that's very expensive for a doll. Thank goodness I'm not much of a doll fan, if not I might be tempted to buy and collect. It seems like an expensive hobby.

I went to Paris when I was 14. I can't say I was overwhelmed by it. I would love to go back and actually travel around the countryside. My parents did that years later with some friends and really enjoyed it. I would also like to do Paris when I don't have just 2 1/2 days and the day everything was closed it rained!

Yes, if everything was closed it must have been boring. When it rained unless you were looking round a museum or gallery it must have been annoying. The French countryside is so beautiful so I hope that you go back to France to see it one day.

Hi Maxine, Yes I have been to France in the past, I have travelled the whole of the South of France and I have also stayed in Paris and had many a day trip to Calais. I went with a group of friends to Paris so I personally didn't find it romantic, however, I guess if I had gone with a partner I may have felt that way about it. I did have a wonderful time there. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie. It is wonderful that you have visited Paris and been to the South of France as well. I used to live in Kent and had some fantastic day trips to Calais and Boulogne. I miss that now I live much further away but I used to live nearer to France than London. Take care, Maxine. Hi Amanda. Wow! You are so lucky to live in France. Which region is now your home? Do you speak fluent French? Thanks.

I went to Paris last year and it didn't disappoint. However, don't even think about driving there. I thought London was bad for traffic but Paris is a nightmare to drive around. Also, don't stray away from the city because outside we found it a very dirty place. We stayed in a hotel just outside the city and it was pretty awful. Once inside the city though, it is a beautiful place to see and I would recommend it.

Yes, the traffic is Paris can get really busy indeed. The center of Paris is a delight but some of the suburbs do look really dirty indeed. The cheaper hotels can be situated in the not so nice areas of town. I am sorry to hear that your hotel was awful.
16 Aug 08
Yes indeed, it was a bad hotel but I look back on it laugh sometimes. I guess I can put it down to experiece...:-) Have a good day!

It's been a long time since I went to France, but I'd love to go again. I decided to study French as an adult, because it is such a beautiful language, and now speak enough to get by. It would be fantastic to get the chance to really experience France now.

I hope that you go to France again soon and try out your French skills. I think that along with Spanish and Italian it is such a beautiful sounding language. It might be interesting for you to visit Paris then take a TGV train to another region.

I know!! I'd really like to do all of Europe. When my daughter is a bit older, we will visit again. It is expensive, so I want her to be old enough to appreciate it. My husband's father is English, so my husband and daughter have a lot of cousins around the east west of England. It would wonderful for her to meet them one day. How about you? Do you have your next trip planned?

I have only been to France once and that was on a school trip over 25 years ago now! We went to Calais and Bologne (sorry can't spell it!) and they were certainly not the best places to go to which put me off France. I loved French at school. Never been to Paris, but hopefully one day I would like to say I have been there. Most people go to France from the UK for picking up cheap booze etc and the hypermarkets. I think the country has so much to offer if you explore further. I think we all say maybe one day we will visit places but we never seem to get around to it, time moves so fast and we never get the time.

I lived in the south of france for some time. I enjoyed it very much and it was a huge advancement for my french LOL But it is interesting, as much as I enjoyed Paris when I visited, it was not my favorite place in France for some reason. Maybe I should have been older and been in love LOL

I didn't visit as much as I would have liked, but I'm particularly fond of the area between toulon and perpignan. I also loved bretagne. I"m not saying I didn't like Paris. With all the history and things to see I would be crazy if I hadn't but it's just that I enjoyed the other parts more :)

Wow! It is great that you once lived in the South of France and I can imagine how living there improved your command of French. Which is your favorite place in France then? Yes, Paris is perhaps only romantic for those couples in love.

Hi maximax8! I haven't been to France but I would surely love to go there. I have heard so much about it and I have seen it in the net and the television. I would love to see Paris, the Eiffel Tower, the Versailles castle outside Paris and the works of Monet and Van Gogh, although it is also an expensive city, they say it is worth the experience. Take care always..God Bless!

Hi Faith210. I hope that you will go to France one day and travel around on the great train system. I really enjoyed visiting Versailles and when I was in Germany saw one of King Ludwig's castles was modeled on that gorgeous looking palace. Yes, it is an expensive city. I went there the second time and stayed in a cheap hotel because all the youth hostels were full. I actually found it quite pricey though. Yes, it was worth it. Take care my friend. I hope that you are having a lovely day.

Paris, France I went during the 1970s. Two weeks when I was 16. During Easter time, huge sugar syrup eggs, wild stuff. Love their bakeries! The Eiffel Tower was so cool. On my evening off, I went back. I'd like to go back again. As kids, they only gave us vouchers to the worst places to eat except the last evening when we went to a real restaurant and the ice cream parlor at the Eiffel Tower. I would love to go to the huge flea market. Trouble with educational tours as kids, you get to mostly pass by stuff you really want to go to. Then you only get an evening off to go see one thing and you have to go with somebody that wants to go there, too. I guess it's romantic to some people. If you don't have anyone to love or find anyone to love there, how romantic can it be? Next time I'd like to really travel France. Go to where perfume is made, so to each region and sample their cuisine.

It must have been exciting to go to Paris when you were just sixteen years old. I remember going on a school trip when I was 11 to Boulogne. I had a green minty drink. My friend and I got left in a department store and had to join another group in order to get back to where our group had gone. Yes, it would be lovely to see where perfume s made and perhaps to buy some. I hope that you will have some delicious cuisine next time you come to France. When I was in Samoa I met a French guy and traveled with him for a day. It was interesting to talk to him about France. Yes, I guess Paris is only romantic if you have a partner with you. The first time I went there I was with my sister.

I have never been to France, but would love to go there. I have been working on my family genealogy. My ancesters on my father's side, DeMontigny, came from France. It would be interesting to go to the area that my ancesters came from.

Hello Greenline. You have been to Paris five times so that it excellent. I think it is the architecture that makes it so romantic. I learned French for five years when I was at school so I can just about get by in the language. At the moment I am trying to learn Spanish and will hopefully join an evening class in September. I want to learn it for Central and South America.

I haven't been to France but I'm including it as a one of my possible destinations next year. Paris, a Romantic place? Yes probably because its one of the favorite places where they shoot romance films. It is full of tourist attractions besides the tower. Literature says that there are lots of activities there that can be enjoyed by couples. Besides my plan to visit France, I would like to visit Russia and United Kingdom.

Thanks for your excellent response. I hope that you go to France and have a wonderful time next year. A trip on a boat down the River Seine is a romantic outing for couples. I really wanted to go to St Petersburg this summer but I found it too bothersome and expensive to get a Russian visa. You might be able to go to the UK if you go to France because there is a train from Paris to London. Happy traveling.
