Why is it so hard to proofread before posting discussions for some people here?

I cannot stand it when people post something and they have all these mistakes, like missing letters in their words or dyslexic typing (tihs is an eaxmple) Why can't they just read before they post their stuff, you know? I HAVE to read before I post. It's like OCD or something. Lol. Are you annoyed by it as well? Or is it just me?

Spelling mistakes can be avoided by using FireFox browser. It has a built-in spell checks and if you spelled something wrong, it will actually be underlined in red - same as in Words. So yeah, get and use FireFox. =)

It works. You don't have to do anything. When you are typing a response it will underline your spelling errors. However it will not identify grammatical errors such as "spelled" in the 1st post.

Everyone is trying to make more money out of the time they get from mylot. I check my responses before posting sometimes but not all the time. But now i am posting this responses from my MOBILE, so its difficult for me to check everything i write. If you can understand the meaning of the response, then why bother about the grammer and spelling mistakes?

Oh gosh, I never correct people when I respond to their posts, if that's what you mean. You do have a point. Lol, why should I bother with it? Because it's one of my pet peeves. But, nobody is perfect. So, I suppose I'll see errors everywhere I go. Thanks for responding and not bad for a response you typed up on your phone! :D Have a great day!

Not everyone speaks fluent english because you have people coming from all different countries and walks of life and if their here for conversation, just like you, whats wrong--if it bothers you that much theres plenty discussions to contribute to, dont hate for the sake hating---translation: dont be a hater

I agree. I am quite fanatical about posting responses that don't contain spelling errors. I will go back and check a few times. I am not the best at grammar, but do my best. I also try to proofread for understandability. If something doesn't quite flow right, I may change it to be easier for my friends who are not so fluent in English. I don't want to have to puzzle out what someone meant to write. I want it to make sense the first time through.

Sometimes, when they type in all lower case or all upper case, that can drive me nuts to read. But not the misspelled words. Mylot has members from all over the world and for many English is a second language and many times not one they have mastered yet. So I don't mind. If it's too bad that I can't make heads or tails from it, I just move on, but if I can read it, I will answer. But it's not just you, many can't stand it. But, it's just how things are when you have so many from all over the world in one place all trying to speak one language.

Oh yeah, I knew there were people from other countries on here, and I'm not talking about them. I understand their situation. I just don't like it when people also type like they're texting on their cellphones. Lol. My school always had these signs posted up around the campus that said, "Txting m8ks u a bad sp3ll3er." Lol, and it really does. :)

I don't understand it myself only for one reason. You have preview response and post response. All you have to do is hit preview response to make sure there are no errors. And if you have spell checker that lets you know if words are spelled wrong or not. If people would use the preview button there would be a lot less mistakes.

I know that some people do that but it does not bother me. I think that they do it because they are only here to get money. If it bothers you that much just don't read them or mark them down. My opinion, just don't pay it any mind it is not that big of a deal. Thanks for reading and good luck.

Oh, I know it's not a big deal. I was just asking a simple question, is all. Trying to get people to say what they think. And you just did that. So, thank you, mrpsychotic. I hope you're not really psychotic. Lol.

No, as long as I could get the point. Not all people here are good at spelling. They just want to express the way they can.

Yeah, good point. I know there are people here from India and Singapore, and I understand where they're coming from because English is such a difficult language to grasp. Thanks for your opinion. :) Happy posting!

I am a culprit. I proof read and hit the post button at the same time. 8/10 times I see the mistake immediately but by then it's too late. Go easy on me. I'm otherwise quite nice.

Lol. I'm not going to bite your head off. I do the same thing too. And you ARE nice and rarely do I see any errors in your posts. Or maybe I wasn't paying attention. . . .one of those. Lol. :D Thanks for your response, P1ke.

I am a stickler for spelling. It's my biggest pet peeve. As time has passed, I have become more tolerant of the mispellings here simply because I realize not everyone's first language is english. I also understand that a person may have limited eyesight. I know that I have made mistakes here, too. One thing I do not tolerate here, though, is the textspeak with all the abbreviations and such.

I'll learn to tolerate it as well. I'm just new is all. And knowing that people are from all over the world here on myLot, I think I'll get over it fairly quickly. The texting thing is annoying too. Lol. When I text, I type out the entire word and make complete sentences with punctuation and all. People don't understand why I do it. Lol. :) Thanks for responding!

Some are legally blind, some are dyslexic, and some are just plain careless. Or sometimes I read my post over twice, hit submit and when it comes up there's a glaring mistake that I didn't catch.

I do that too. I'll be like, "Ahh, perfect." And then I hit that submit button, read it over and go, "Crap!" But, nobody really cares about it, I'm sure. But it sure does bug the heck out of me.

Yeah I guilty of this quite a bit. I actually try to read it before I even post, but rarely hit preview post. But you are right I should do this. Thanks for the reminder!!

It use to bother me when I first joined but now it's not so bad. I am more annoyed when someone's post doesn't have spacing. 1 space between words and 2 after punctuation, spacing really makes the post easier to read.

I've never seen that before. But, yes, spacing does make it a lot easier to read. Sometimes, my space bar sticks when I press it, and then my words come out likethis. Lol. I hope that didn't bug you. :) Thanks for your response, Zephyr! Have a beautiful day!

Ok, I myself have done this but, in my defense, I get migraines when I wear my glasses for long periods of time. Sometimes my brain gets fuzzy. I try to not let it bother me when I write but, it happens. As for people around the globe. Some people that are just learning english are posting on here as well. It's not to say I don't appreciate their effort but, if you are going to engage in a conversation in english, I believe it must be written in correct english.

I guess some people are just too excited to make a proofreading before posting the comment or a discussion. I don't really get annoyed by this.. as long as I can understand the thought of the discussion that is fine with me.. but yeah.. there are limitations like those that are obviously too lazy to correct the mistakes.

Yes, I have also noticed these spelling mistakes. I never post response without reading. Just some seconds, if we can give for reading, we can avoid such mistakes.

As long as I can read and understand it I don't mind at all. Not all mylotters have English as their mother tongue, so it's understandable. I do have some mistakes at times especially on the grammar. I proofread but when it is already posted, there are still misspelled and wrong grammar sometimes. Also, there are different kinds of people here, some just type and post without proofreading maybe because they just want to have as many post as they can for the payout, you know. And some, type and proofread also before posting but it's all what they know of the English language the reason why these misspelled words are common here. Let's suggest mylot offers a tutorial for this. :)

It kind of bugs me too. I make an effort to proof read my responses before I post to check for spelling and grammatical errors. I don't always catch them all, but I do spot some every now and then. I go through to make sure that I've written coherent statements, and that my response makes sense (sometimes when I'm trying to write out a bunch of ideas at once, I get sidetracked and leave out some information or leave sentence fragments).

Hi! It does annoy me and it annoys me in text messages too, but when I'm here on mylot I tend to just type really quickly and then not notice I have made mistakes, I should really take the time to read it before going ahead and posting it! It annoys me more when I notice mistakes that I have made in discussions and responses! I worry that people will think I'm dopey! hehe So, yes it does annoy me but I do it too so I can't complain about it! It's wierd had to type this to make sure I didn't make any mistakes, and it didn't really take me any longer, maybe I'll just have to be more careful in future!! Happy Mylotting! xx
