I am a Christian - developing into an agnostic. I guess the biggest misconception about agnosticism/atheism would be that they have no moral values since they do not have a code or a book that supples them with the proper rules to follow.

LOL lots of stuff.....Ppl who don't know much about my personal path are quick to say I've no morals and therefore must sin all the time becuase godless ppl are selfish, shallow and lost dontcha know ...some think that I "worship Satan" which is funny as all bloody hell to me since I dont believe in Satan LOL AND of course the simple fact that neither Paganism nor Vodou has ANYTHING to do with Satan at all...Ppl sometimes think that I must be some curse tossing ppl hater who sacrifices babies and small farm animals....again highly entertaining to me....when they findn out I'm Buddhist they tend to assume that I'm suppose to be some super mellow almost lethargic love everyone and everything type..again..very funny..... there are a lot of things that ppl wrongly assume and actually try to accuse me of which is annoying yet comical since all it would take to make it right is to...oh I dunno..JUST ASK... of course thats just too hard for some ppl..let alone asking while being open minded at the same time

I am an Ecclectic Wicca/Witch. We do have books on moral values and the like. I believe that if you harm none then why worry about a friends or any other persons religion? We do have rules and there are many that we follow. I think the biggest misconception is that people think we will turn them into toads or put a spell on someone. In all honesty it is not like that at all.

These are some of the misconceptions people have about Christianity, thinks I. 1. Christians worship more than one God, wrong 2. Pope's, Priests, etc. are not expressly forbidden, they are 3. That the Catholic Church is the oldest Christian Church, it isn't all the best urban

Most Christians are actually devil worshipers, in that they have given 'evil' such a huge role in their lives.

What rot! Phoneybuddha, it is clear you are filled with resentment of Christians for some reason lost in your own twisted psyche. all the best urban

I do not resent Christianity... outright I hate it. And the reason is not lost to me now nor has it ever been... it is because of the suffering it has caused, the lies that it has spread, and the idiotic mentality it encourages. But you are right to call me a phony buddha... I am definitely not a Buddhist!

I think the problem is not about having no moral values, the issue is how to choose moral values when there are competing value system. And how to decide which one is superior.

Agreed. But the point is more complex than that, I guess. You may ok homosexuality, which I may not okay. I don't know what reasons you'd give for okaying homosexuality. For my not okaying I refer to the Bible. You may say I allow people to exercise freedom of choice. But what reasons you'd give to Hitler? Hitler will say that he should be given freedom to exercise his choice. What do you think? Just curious... Blessings!

Choosing which one is superior will be based off your already existing morals.

I am an atheist turned Christian turned monotheist/pantheist. I believe that phenomena such as symbiosis between organism and plant for the "breath of life," the intricacy of facility in the nine systems of human anatomy, and the wonder of thought and the five basic senses evidence purpose; while DNA and the structural complexity of even the very earliest, Precambrian bacterium known to man evidence that evolution is somehow guided. I may be wrong, but I am of the understanding that almost all scientists nowadays believe in natural selection as opposed to mutation; the disagreement between theism and atheism apparently is whether or not there is a conscious Intelligence behind these precise and immutable laws. I do believe in a personal God because of some of the things I have seen since my initial conversion away from atheism (see my second comment under response #22): http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1457432.aspx?p=3

Fair enough :)But I'm not sharing my religion anymore, cuz it seems most here cannot look past that...so if ya figure it out, geat, if not...oh well:) The biggest misconception about the followers who proclaim the same faith is that we are all out to push our beliefs down everyone's throat. That is not me and never has been, so it gets under my skin anytime I hear, read it, or witness it in any way. It is not the way we are taught by our only role model. Can I extend my hand out across your discussion as well?? ((out stretches her hand))

various different ones. that I have no Gods, I am an atheist (errrm, no, on account of having a religion) or the most common being that I worship the devil.

I think that most people think that the Jews are damned if they do not convert to christianity. Christians all feel that theirs is the only way to heaven! If you do not go through the christ, you cannot get to Hashem and therefore cannot get to heaven. Of course it is spelled right out in the ten commandments not to put anyone or anything between man and Hashem so who is right? The Jews will always choose Hashem's own words not some Apostle's!!!
