Islam is one of the major religions of the world. It is not as ancient as Hinduism, as progressive as Christianity or pacifist as Buddhism. It is based on the writings contained in a book called the Koran which is interpreted by Mullahs etc. The pacifist branch of Islam is the Sufi while the Shia and Sunni branches are steeped in differing dimensions of militancy in proselytizing. Like all religions there are good and bad things contained in the so called holy book when one views it from a perspective of rationality. Islam is a great religion; however it must be noted that people following the Islamic faith are at the center of armed conflict in many parts of the world. People following the Islamic faith have claimed responsibility for many acts of violence and terror in a number of countries. All great religions have gone through a period of reformation and have emerged as being more pertinent to their constituents in the age of reason. However there does not seem to be a clear reformation that has come to pass in the Islamic religion, which leaves aspects of dogma and theology at 7th century levels of understanding. The Catholic church for example reduced the use of Latin so as to be meaningful to its flock. Till Islamists do away with Arabic (which most of its followers have no clue about) the average moslem will only guided by mullahs and ayotollahs who have other agendas.

I was raised catholic and i consider myself a cafeteria catholic. My sister turned muslim many years ago. She married a very nice man who is muslim and of course they both follow the islam religion. The go to his homeland (Jordan) once a year. I agree with some of the practices but religion doesn't matter to me as long as you believe in God (Allah). Everyone has the right to believe what they want as long as they don't push their religion on other people,i know i don't i respect everyone's beliefs.

Since I have not made any study of Islam, I can't comment on Islam, so I have no opinion on it. But, I have known a lot of Muslims in my life. Most of them are very nice people. I don't like the system of Muslim women wearing burquas, but my Mylot Muslim friends have told me it isn't compulsory. I don't like polygamy either, but again some of my Mylot Muslim friends have told me that a man can't marry again unless his first wife gives permission. Finally, I am terrified with these Islamic terrorist organizations. Apart from that, ordinary Muslim people are really nice people, and I have some nice friends among them. Cheers and happy mylotting

I don't like when woman wear a whole cover dress including face cover. However If it is not covering face and arms, I'm Ok with. Islam do not says to wear burqa or what ever but it says to draw veils over the chest and to show only what appear apparently. Woman is supposed to wear a dress that cover excluding face & forearms. Burqa is more kind of a cultural practice. About polygamy, Quran advices to take one, but can have more than one upto four for specific reasons and he should equally treat them all, if he fails to treat them equally he may even lose his better rewards in after life. 2nd/3rd/4th marriages should not break the existing relationships, and Islam teaches who ever break family relation won't enter paradise. The terrorist things are what we used to hear in news, however Islam never support terrorism, and terrorists are out of Islamic boundary. I used to live in India, I have a lot of friends of different religions, we live in peace and harmony, religion was never an issue in dealing with others. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers.

LOL... The book is Genesis of Christians and Jews.. So it doesn't matters for a free thinker. Have a look at Mahabharata, Jain, Sikh, Zorastrian and Buddhist theories and check whether Ishmael and Issac exists in it as well.

many have been indoctrinated to that theory, Christianity claim that Issac is the promised son of Abraham... but it is not, it is Ishmael.. it is written in Quran. However Issac and Ishmael are the sons of Abraham and Ishmael was the first one, and with that very first son God test his faith in sacrificing a son born after many years of longing.
