Well, here we are back to school. I have 4 kids and only 1 was really excited about going to school. This is his first year in public school. He has been homeschooled through 1st grade and now our youngest is off making friends and socializing on a new level. As parents do you see that your kids are happy to be back to school (Or getting ready to go back)? Are you excited about them going back? What is the number one thing that you want them to get out of school? Why?

Hi double, I have no kids but I have observed a lot of kids who are excited to see their classmates again, to use their new stuff(LOL), be away from the house...a lot of reasons for their excitement and i can also see some who are not and prefer to watch Tv, play games! LOL! When I was a student,it always excites me!

I always hated going back, but then I didn't want to leave my friends at the end of the year. I'm sure most kids have a mixed view of school. Thanks for the response.

Here in Finland not very many are excited, usually people hate school. I don't have kids but I hated school a lot too...

Not sure what school are like in Finland but I do know that looking back I do not remember as many bad things about school as I do the good. I believe that as you get older and more detatched you relize things were not as bad as they seemed at the time you are going through it.

I have always realized it, I just didn't like it. I think that we Finns don't appreciate the school because it's free here, kids don't understand how good thing is to have a free school and they think it as a stupid thing they HAVE to do, not as a good thing. Of course first-graders and a few other guys at every school are excited but not many...

I hope things go very well for them this year. It must be difficult having one go off to college. My oldest is in 10th grade. He will be heading off to college soon enough. I am not sure I will know how to act. I know I will miss him. :(

I remember a time when we didn't go back until after Labor day. Boy that seems so long ago. Summer break seems so short in todays society. HAve we really seen an increase in education though?

My wife seems to enjoy her extra "her" time. She said that when they were at the house she was always having to cater to them. She couldn't hide any where without being found by the kids. :-)

Our daughters are already grown and married but my Granddaughter called today and she will be starting kindergarten tomorrow and she is so excited. She also just signed up for dance class and had her first lesson today and she loved that. So it is looking like a good week for her.

We start on Wednesday. My daughter starts Kindergarten. She is excited. I am excited for her. I think I will be sad too. I am anxious and trying not to pass it along to her. I had a vision in my mind what it might be like and after the orientation, it wasn't at all what I imagined. It took me a day to get over that!

First of all welcome to Mylot. I do hope you enjoy it here. Secondly, Yes I think we all have an idea of what it will be like. This year is the first year that all 4 of mine are in school. My wife said she is not sure what she going to do. There is also that sadness that ALL the kids are gone to school. They grow up so quickly. :)

My 8 year old is the only one going to school this year. He is starting 3rd grade. He starts back on the 14th. He is excited about going back to school. I think mainly because he has been cooped up in the house with his sister and I all summer. Time to go hang with kids his own age.

school hasn't started her yet it will sept 2nd. i only have 1 child going to school and shes excited to get back. i'll be happy shes back in school, there will be less fighting between her and her 3yr old brother lol. i want her to have fun but learn lots too. i know they are there to learn but i think its important to have some fun, i don't want her getting bored at school or discouraged from continuing on right to the end.

Yes I want my kids to have fun too. It is important to do both. Develope mentally as well as socially. My 7th grader has a hard time making friends. My boys seem to do it so easily. But then again look at his picture, how can you not fall in love.

My daughter doesn't think about school yet, school starts in septembre again. I'll be glad when school starts again but it will also mean that the summer is all most over and that's one thing don't like.

Here in the Philippines, school does not start in September but in june. While my daughter is already a college graduate and in fact has recently passed the board exams for nurses, I can remember when she was still in grade school and the excitement and yes the tension of first day of school in the earlier grades. But in the higher grades, she was excited and looked forward to meeting her friends again and making new friends and so could not wait to leave for school on the first school day of the year. Of course, learning and knowledge or education for short is the first thing i wanted her to get out of school but i also wanted her to learn how to socialize and deal with other people, make a lot of friends and know how to hold her own in the world out there.

Excellent response. I believe that school is a great way to start to get acclemated to the real world, but in a somewhat controlled environment. I hope that they do very well this year.

i have 1 whos 9 and going into the 4th grade and she is so excited to go back and be with all her friends agains..summer wasnt much fun this year because of prices but she did get some of what she wanted..im looking forward to her going back to school to start learning something new..they go stagnit when summer comes and then its a rush to get things done..school shopping not liking im not one for shopping but the fashion thing is still on..why?? a good education is my main concerse with my kids without it where would you be?? what would you do?? how would you live?? everyday questions i try to tell my kids when they say they hate school after halh of the year is over with..its kinda funny and i find myself laughing now,but education is not a joking matter..so let them be themselves, express and be there. ty for this oppertunitty to express how i feel and the kind of things i was wondering about myself..good A+++

Wonderful thoughts on education. Education is important. My wife and I are VERY involved in our childrens education. We have at times homeschool all of them. This past summer we mandated a "no electronics" rule. They were to find other things to do. Some of them read, some wrote songs. My oldest learned to play the piano. (taught himself) He would practice 2-3 hours a day. I am a keyboard player, singer, songwriter and I am so happy to see that the kids spent time enhancing their lives instead of "rotting" in front of the TV or computer. thanks for your response.

My son is starting kindergarten this year and he is nervous. He keeps telling me he is scared lol. When we went to the orientation for the school he was the only child who cried. he got over it tho when he rode the bus for the first time. Im hoping he isnt a bag of nerves when he starts, hopefully he will have a good first day.

I have four girls in school. The youngest was in preschool last year but it got out really early. So she did not get to really understand it. Monday was their first day back. My youngest was the first one up and dressed. She was brushing her hair before her three sister could even get ready for school. They all was so excited, because they started a new school this year. We moved and they to begin with did not want to go to a new school nor move. Now that school has started and they have made new friends and the twins are in the same class. They all are loving school. I just want them to learn and grow. As long as they get the most out of school is all I care about. I also work for the school they go to. I work doing all the fundraising organization for them from home. So the kids are really enjoying this.. Happy MyLotting and Posting!!

That is great that they are enjoying school so much. It is good to hear that children are so excited about school. And for you to have the opportunity to work in that school and be close to them, what a priviledge.
